Ch 17: "Secrets"

(Katie's pov)

Another day passed, and Willow started taking some of us for... uhm... something more than getting supplies. She went with Tigry, Pony, Baren, and Pandy; so Filip, Kitty, Rash, Foxy, Felix and I didn't know what they did. I guess it was something bad, since Pony arrived looking kinda sad, or mad... or feeling guilty. He was trying to hide it, but I could see that well.
About Felix, he was trying to be friends with Pony. I know they didn't start well, but I guess Foxy and him were the ones to make our friend feel better.

That same night, all of us were in the boys' room having a conversation.

Tigry: So... what were you guys doing before the infection? Who wants to answer first?
Kitty: Me! I mean... If ya'll agree...

I saw Tigry and could notice he was blushing at... Kitty? When the heck did this happen?

Filip: Continue, I don't think anyone else wants to be first.
Pandy: Yeah, we want to hear ya!
Kitty: Well, as some of you may know, I used to work as a chef at my own restaurant. Then, the place started filling with the infected. I guess I just had luck to escape.
Katie: I don't think it was just luck.
Tigry: Yeah, me neither.

One by one, we started telling about what we were used to and what exactly happened right before coming. They all shared their history. All except for Pony. But well, the important thing right now is when it was my turn.

Felix: You don't really have to. Pony didn't.
Katie: Well, I want to do it. Pandy said I'll have to trust you all, and this is a big step.

They were looking at me.

Katie: Uhm... Okay... I... used to be a surgeon, but then the infection came in and all of us doctors and nurses had to escape. I... I used to have another friend. Her name was Brenda.
Filip: And what happened to her?
Katie: Well... *sighs* While escaping, an infected scratched her. And obviously, she turned into one of... them. I haven't seen her since that night.

A very, very little tear fell, but I could feel two hands, each on one of my shoulders. At my left, I could see Felix, as Pony was at my right. Both saw each other after noticing, and I couldn't resist laughing a little. It looked like they had the same idea at the same moment.

Katie: Well, that was unexpected from you both.
Pandy: Uhm... Katie, do you feel well? You look red.

I felt my face was heated.

Katie: Actually, it's a little hot in here, isn't it?
Kitty: We could open the window.
Katie: There's no need... I'll just go wash my face.

"What's happening...? What am I doing?"

I returned to the room after washing my face, and we all continued talking about random topics for some minutes before actually going to sleep.

More days passed, and I could see Pony everyday more worried. In fact, one day, I was walking through the hallways when I heard his voice. I got a little closer. Apparently he was talking to someone, but I didn't see anyone with him.

Pony: Look. I won't join a bag-headed man who bothers me like this. Plus, I don't even know if you're real!
Katie: A-Are you okay?
Pony: Stop it! Leave me be!

He suddenly hit me with his bat, and I fell.

Pony: ... Katie! Are you okay?
Katie: Yeah, I guess.
Pony: Who hit you?
Katie: ...Don't you remember?
Pony: What are you talking about?
Katie: It... It was you.
Pony: Wh- What have I done...? I'm so sorry...
Katie: Don't worry. I'm okay. Btw, who were you talking with?
Pony: Oh... About that, I thought Willow was here.
Katie: Well... I don't think you could dare hitting her like that. She would kill you, and you know it.
Pony: ...
Katie: And you wouldn't call Willow a "bag-headed man".
Pony: How much did you hear?
Katie: Enough to say it was not because of her.

I looked at him with a serious expression on my face.

Pony: Well... Actually...

We heard some footsteps near us, and Felix appeared.

Felix: Guys! I'm relieved I found you.
Katie: Huh? What are you doing here?
Felix: I was searching for you... two. Yeah, both. I guess I'll have to get used to it.
Pony: Not really. You'll have time to be with her for... You know... *wink wink*

Ah, yes. Since Felix and I became friends again, Pony started shipping us too.
