Chapter Twenty-Three

I know it's short...I'm sorry. I'm still battling covid and it's been affecting my motivation to write.

Your eyes flutter open the next morning and you see Touya sleeping next to you. His face has such a peaceful expression as he sleeps. You roll onto your side and smile at him. You gently trace your fingers along his bare chest, being careful around his scarred skin.

"Watching me sleep is a little weird, don't you think?" He rasped, his voice still thick with sleep.

You giggled and nuzzled into his chest as he wrapped his arm around you. He pulled you closer to him and kissed you gently on the forehead. He tucked his face down into your neck and held your bodies close together under the blankets. You breathed in his soft scent of amber and ash and let out a sigh.

"What is it?" He asked softly.

"I just wish we could stay like this for longer," you mumbled.

Touya pulled back and laid his head on his pillow. His blue eyes peered into yours as he cupped your face. You smiled at him softly and laid next to him under the soft sheets. His eyes turned sad as he looked at you and he rolled onto his back to stare up at the ceiling.

He breathed in deeply and let out a heavy sigh. "I wish I could give you the kind of love you deserve, Y/N."

You sat up in bed next to him with a look of hurt and confusion. "Touya, you do. What are you talking about?"

"No, I don't," he snapped as he sat up, facing away from you. "Sneaking around in motels and planning secret meetings is far beneath what you deserve."

You didn't say anything...what could you say? Even though you were more than happy to take what you could get with him, you knew for him it would never feel like enough. This was a forbidden love that you would always have to hide. The only way out of this was no longer being a hero, and that wasn't an option you wanted to consider.

You reached a hand out to touch his shoulder and he flinched at your touch before his body relaxed again. His hand laid over yours but he stayed facing the opposite direction. His head lifted and titled back with a slight groan. He squeezed your hand gently before he shifted his body on the bed to look at you.

"Why do you keep doing this with me?"

His words were like ice-cold water being thrown over your naked skin. It was a shock and it left you speechless.

"Because I love you," you said, shaking your head at him like that should have been obvious.

"But why? What kind of life could we ever expect to have together?" He scoffed. His hands cupped your face. As you met his gaze, you saw the hurt hiding behind his coarse words. "You're a hero, I'm a villain. Neither of us wants to give up that life. This is all I can ever give you. Why settle for that?"

Tears threatened to spill from your eyes as his words sank into your heart. "Touya, for me it's not settling. You were all I ever wanted. I make compromises to be with you, sure...but it's not an unwilling one." You smiled at him, hoping your words would encourage him to see things from a brighter perspective.

Touya's gaze hardened and he pulled your face to his. His lips pressed into yours with a passionate kiss, causing your eyes to flutter closed at the embrace. He pulled back and sighed. Your eyes opened slowly to look at his face. You saw his pained expression as he clenched his jaw and pressed his forehead into yours. Slowly he pulled back and laid his head back on his pillow to stare blankly at the ceiling again.

You grabbed his hand and squeezed it gently. His eyes flicked over to you and the corners of his mouth pulled into a small grin. He pulled you down to him and you laid your head against his chest. The sound of his heartbeat and steady breaths soothed you a little.

"Do you truly want to have a life with me, Y/N? I know I've asked you this before, but I just need to hear it again," he said softly, his deep voice rattling in his chest under your ear.

"Yes," you answered.

Dabi pulls your body on top of his and kisses you deeply. His hand goes into your hair, pushing it out of your face as he kisses you. His other hand slides up the side of your thigh to rub over your ass. It's soft and loving, full of intimacy but not in a sexual way. You sit up on top of him, straddling his body. He smiles at you as you look down at him.

"Touya, can I ask you something?"

He nods a little. "Anything, little light."

Your heart flutters at his nickname for you that you have grown so fond of hearing. You chew your lip with nervousness. Heat rushes over your face as you get a little anxious. You wanted to ask, but you're not really sure if you're prepared to hear the answer.

"Remember how you said you'd burn the world so we could be together? What do you mean when you say that?"

He sighs and his expression hardens again. His eyes drop from your face as his head rolls to the side. "Don't concern yourself with that, Y/N. It'll only cause you more grief," he grumbles.

You tilt his chin so he faces you again. "Touya, please..."

"No," he snaps and grabs your hand tightly in his. "Do you trust me?" You nod slowly, your heartbeat quickening a little in your chest. "Then let me take care of it, ok?"

Touya's turquoise eyes silently plead with you to not question him further. They scan over your face, glazed with subtle darkness and full of determination. You nod again and lay down on top of him. He holds your body close and gently strokes the back of your head. His face buries into your neck and you nuzzle into him again.

"How much longer do we have?" He whispers against your skin.

"All day," you respond. "I'm off today."

He smiles and quickly flips you over to lay underneath him. Your eyes snap open with a gasp. He smirks at your surprise and raises a brow. His body sinks under the blanket as he positions himself between your thighs. You look down at him and catch a glimpse of his eyes as he glances up at you.

"Touya," you giggle.

He shushes you before kissing your thigh. "I'm hungry, and my breakfast is being served in bed today."
