A few days later, there was a burial for Dabi and Twice in a secluded graveyard. It seemed like a cruel joke from the universe itself that the sun was particularly bright that day. You and Toga clung to each other while Compress dropped their marbled bodies into the graves they had dug out earlier that day.
Shigaraki kicked at the ground, hands shoved deep into his pockets. He wouldn't look at anyone the entire time, but you could tell he was fighting to disguise his hurt with anger. He would bark out orders to Spinner and a few other people that you didn't recognize.
All you could do was cry with Toga. You'd thought all your tears had been dried up after the sobfest of the night your world imploded. Compress placed a gentle hand on your shoulder and offered a sheepish grin for comfort. You squeezed your hand over his and slipped out of Toga's arms to peer over the edge of the open grave.
There he was. His face looked so peaceful...it was strange. His skin was paler than normal. The massive wound in his torso was a painful reminder of the events of that day. Everything flashed through your mind in quick succession.
Twice melting away in front of you and Toga.
Hearing Touya's screams.
The tone in Keigo's voice when he betrayed you.
The pain in Touya's face when he was stabbed.
The panic in Keigo's eyes when you killed him.
Touya's grip on you as he died in your arms.
And the blood...so much blood.
You closed your eyes and your lip quivered. You shook your head and turned away from the grave, unable to look at him like that any longer. Your chest rose and fell with sharp breaths. The pounding of your heart filled your ears. Bile rose up in your throat. You rushed away from the group huddled around the graves and retched behind a tree.
The last few days you were in such a dark place you had barely been able to eat. There was hardly anything to puke up from your stomach. Your throat burned from the stomach acid. You wiped the back of your hand across your mouth and took a deep breath that caused your chest to shake from the crying.
"Y/N?" A soft voice called from behind you, followed by a sniffle.
You turned and saw Toga peeking around the tree at you with concern filling her eyes. You sighed and stood up straight again. She grabbed your wrist and chewed her lip, briefly looking away.
"I'm ok, Toga," you croaked.
She nodded and let go of your arm. The blonde picked at a frayed sleeve of her sweater and sighed. You walked a few paces past her to rejoin the group, who looked like they were filling in the graves.
"Hey, um, I wanted to thank you," Toga said softly behind you.
Her words stopped you in your tracks. You turned to look at her, confusion painting your features. "Thank me for what?"
Her golden yellow eyes met yours with a hardened gaze. "For killing Hawks." Her cold tone was chilling. "He betrayed us...all of us. Dabi told me you guys were leaving. I was so happy for you." She grinned slightly, looking at the ground. "Me and Jin...we wanted to be together, too. Peacefully I mean. The love you guys had was so beautiful. It inspired me." She laughed a little sheepishly.
Tears pricked your lashline again as you listened to her words. You clenched your fists, reliving the hurt and anger you felt at the betrayal of someone who you all thought of as a friend.
"He deserved it. He killed Jin and Touya. I wasn't going to let him go without paying for what he did," you shook your head. "Death seemed like the only fair price to pay for his actions."
"Careful, you're starting to sound like us," she chuckled softly.
You sighed and met her gaze again as she grinned at you. "Touya said something like that to me once. I don't think I'm bad...none of you are bad either. You're all just playing life with the hand of cards that you were dealt. And from what I've been able to gather, none of you were given a fair deal in life."
Toga nodded and rubbed at the back of her neck. "I'm just happy to have a friend like you, Y/N."
You smiled at her and gave her a little hug. She squeezed you tightly and the two of you rejoined the group. Both of you stood around while the guys finished filling in the graves. When they were done, Shigaraki called Kurogiri who transported you all back to the mansion that was the current home of the Paranormal Liberation Front.
You started to walk down the hallway to Dabi's room. As you turned a corner, the sound of sluggish footsteps behind you caused you to stop. You turned slowly to look over your shoulder and saw Shigaraki following you. He paused and looked up, chewing his lip a little.
"Did you need something, Tomura?"
He lifted his hand to scratch at his neck and smirked a little. "So tell me, what is it that you plan to do now? They're looking for you, ya know. Calling you hero society public enemy number one, a traitor that was a secret informant for the league and the murderer of the number two hero."
You clenched your fists and jaw. You had seen the news and you had heard all the reports. They made you angry. Not because of what they were saying about you or how much they were dragging your name through the mud, but because of what they weren't reporting on.
None of the news stations were reporting on the reveal of Endeavor's past. The news stations were twisting it, saying you and the villain that you were in cohorts with had made it all up based on his poor late son's death and the accident surrounding it. Enji had been interviewed after the events of Dabi's death. He had stood there and said he didn't know the man who was claiming to be his dead son. He was only a villain to him. He showed his anger for trusting you and denounced you as a sidekick as well as a family friend.
Your best friend stood behind him at the press conference. Her eyes were puffy and red. Your heart hurt so badly for her...she didn't know the full truth. Shoto stood there in silence, staring at the ground. No doubt he was too afraid of his father's backlash to speak up. Natsuo stood there with anger painted across his face. He glared at the back of his father's head. You could tell he wanted to stand up to his father. He knew the truth...he had said it himself that he blamed Endeavor for his older brother's death.
"I've seen the news. What about it?" Your voice was cold. You almost didn't recognize it as your own.
He sighed and walked closer to you. His crimson eyes pierced into yours. "So what are you going to do about it?" You raised a brow at him in confusion. "You didn't seem to have any quarrels about killing the other person who hurt Dabi. So I guess what I'm really asking is, what's stopping you from killing the other pro who caused him so much pain?"
You blinked at him a few times. Kill Endeavor? That wasn't something you had considered before now. You were so angry...but you were also hurt. That day you had told him how you felt. You told him it was his fault. One hero had already paid the price for Dabi's death...
"Are you ready to destroy the monster who insists that you are the villain? We know the truth. Don't you think it's time they start reporting it on the news instead of the lies he's helped fabricate to save face?"
"Yes." You closed the distance between the two of you in the hallway and met his gaze steadily. "It's time for him to pay his price, too."
"Excellent. Let's talk," he grinned as the two of you walked down the hallway.
