Chapter Fourteen

The drive is fuzzy for you. Buildings flashed in your vision, but most of the time you just saw blurry shapes as you sobbed softly with your head craned back against your seat. Dabi's hand rested on your knee through the drive. He shushed you and offered reassurances to you, but your mind was running wild with what had just happened at the cemetery.

He saw me.

The vehicle stopped and he quickly got out of the car and reappeared at your door. He lifted you and wrapped one of your arms around his neck. The other laid limp against your body while he cradled you. Your glazed-over eyes stared blankly at his chest, tears blurring your vision and occasionally slipping down your cheeks.

Dabi pushed his door open with his foot and laid you down softly in his bed. He tucked the blanket around you and kissed your temple gently. "I'll be right back," he says and walks out of the room, closing the door behind him.

In his absence, it all slams into you. He saw you. Your eyes go wide as you gasp and lurch upwards in bed. Your tears stream faster as you gasp for air, feeling like you're suffocating. You clutch your chest and look around frantically.

"Oh no, oh god! He saw me...he saw us! And we...we were..." Another gasp in the horror of the realization. The rush of thoughts you have about the potential repercussions, the horror of what Endeavor saw, the backlash it could have against you or Touya if he saw who it was...it was maddening and overwhelming. You sobbed harder, choking on them while you struggled to catch your breath. You grasp your face hard and your fingers dig into your skin.

Touya reappears in the room and quickly shuts the door behind him. He lunges over to you with soft eyes full of concern. "Y/N! Hey Y/N, calm down doll. It's ok," he coos and shushes you as he wraps you up in his arms and rocks you a little. "Listen to me, little light. Listen to my voice."

His hands gently cup yours and he holds them tight. He keeps saying your name and it finally breaks through to you. Your eyes snap to his face and you see him shushing you. He pulls your hands from your face and pets your head.

"Calm down and talk to me. What's going on?"

You take a shaky breath, trying to calm yourself. "Touya...h-he...he saw. Endeavor...he was there. He saw us," your voice is scarce and you start to feel the panic rise again.

He curses under his breath and grips you tighter against him. "Ok, listen. It's fine. Everything is fine. You're safe," he says softly and kisses your face. He places more kisses on your temple, cheek, and jawline. "It's all right, Y/N. Just lie down with me, ok?"

Touya moves you both to lay down on the bed. He holds you against him and turns your body to face his. He keeps petting your hair and shushing into your ear, trying to calm you down. Your panicked quick breaths slowly settle into a steady rhythm and you're overcome with exhaustion.

He sees your eyes start to flutter closed and leans over to grab something. He brings a bottle of water to your lips and coaxes you to take a few sips. You do and he takes it away. Your eyes shut tightly and your body gives in as you fade into sleep.

When you wake up, you smell a familiar ash and amber scent, and instinctively reach for Touya. You find emptiness in the bed next to you and your eyes slowly open. You sit up and rub your eyes. Once you take in your surroundings, you freeze at the sight of the unfamiliar room.

Dabi's raised voice startles you and you look towards the door. Then you remember...everything.

You groan and bury your face into your hands, bringing your knees to your chest. "Oh god..." You sigh and feel your face and chest heat with the burn of embarrassment. Slowly you pull your face from your hands and take another look around. "Well, I guess I should go tell him I'm awake," you mumble.
