You laugh into your wine glass as Kyoko tells you and Fuyumi a story about cooking dinner with Natsuo.

"Tasted like I had poured salt straight into my mouth!" She shrugged. "We trashed it all and ordered takeout."

"Guess I've still got a few things to teach that brother of mine." Fuyumi giggled.

Kyoko nodded as she continued to giggle. "I'm trying, but the boy has no sense in the kitchen!"

Kyoko continued to babble on and down another glass of wine. You looked down at your plate and took another bite of your food. Your thoughts couldn't help but wander back to Touya... That could have been us. Memories of the eruption of blue flames that day in the park doused those thoughts.

A hand reached and grabbed yours. You looked up and met Fuyumi's concerned gaze. Her smile was so kind. You returned it with a small grin and squeezed her hand reassuringly.

"How's work going, Y/N?" Fuyumi cut in to change the topic of conversation.

You nodded and chewed the bite of food in your mouth before continuing. "It's been good. No news on the scientist we lost in the fight last week, but we're still looking. Your dad is hopeful we can make some progress after we found that lab harboring all those nomu." Your face set with a determined expression.

She smiled at you and your sister did a little giddy clap. You both laughed at her and her pink flushed cheeks. Fuyumi glanced at you and you had to stifle a giggle at Kyoko's wounded expression.

"Honey, I can drive you home if you want." She grinned at Kyoko.

Your sister yawned and nodded. "That's probably a good idea... Sorry, but their plum wine is just so yummy!" She propped her chin up as she leaned into the table.

Fuyumi signaled to the server for your table and you all paid your bills. The two of you helped Kyoko up and you walked with them to her car. Fuyumi got into the driver seat as you tucked your sister into the car.

"I'll see you at home," you chuckled as Fuyumi started the car.

Your apartment wasn't far so the two of you had walked down the street to the restaurant. You started the short trek home. The night was warm and what stars you could see past the bright lights of the city were shining pretty in the sky. There was a soft breeze that went through your hair and you closed your eyes at its warmth on your face.

A tight grasp on your arm snapped your eyes back open. Before you could make a sound, a hand went over your mouth and your feet were lifted off the ground. A muffled scream was trapped by the hand pressed against your lips. You looked around, but couldn't see who had grabbed you or where they were taking you. They turned you around and slammed your back against the brick wall of the dark alley. There were no lights overhead and it took your eyes a moment to adjust. You glanced up and down at the form of the tall slender man in front of you.

There wasn't much space between his body and yours as he held you down with his forearm and elbow. He leaned in close to you, his face hovering next to yours. He smelled like the cozy embers of a campfire with a hint of amber.

"I'm going to move my hand from your mouth, but don't scream...and don't struggle. This doesn't have to get ugly." The raspy male voice spoke low next to your ear. He slowly pulled his hand from your lips.

"I could say the same for you..." you whispered back. A sly grin spread across your face as you gently poked at his mid-section with the tip of the knife you'd formed from the dim glow seeping into the edge of the alley. It was small and its light was dull, but the blade wasn't.
