"Oh my god! He's awake! Doctor!"

Bright lights burned Jungkook's eyes, making him dizzy in an instant. There was a loud ringing in his ear that seemed to block out everything else.  A woman with gray hair and a white coat appeared frantically next to him. Her mouth moved rapidly, but the sound that came with it was muffled under the high pitched whine he was hearing. Upon shaking his head to tell her he couldn't understand, he finally noticed his whole body ached. His abdomen, however, burned like it had been sent to hell for a year and brought back.

"Fuck..." Jungkook's voice crackled when he used it, and he winced in the added pain. He looked around the room since he wouldn't be getting much from the woman next to him. It was dull and unfamiliar. Nothing was reminding him of the missing part in his memory.

The doctor tried to get the alpha's attention again, waving her hands and nudging his arms, but he only ignored her with a questioning expression. His mind was racing as it tried to put pieces together. The last thing he remembered was Taehyung's smiling face on the day of his birthday, but the calendar on the white wall across from him displayed "January" boldly at the top of its first page.

Something touched the end of Jungkook's bed, drawing his attention away from the bland calendar. There he saw Hoseok with a hard to read expression, one hand on the thin mattress and one holding back Yugyeom who had probably been just about to jump onto the injured alpha.

Jungkook's eyes locked onto a scar that ran down Hoseok's chin. It was new and still healing, an odd shade of purple reminiscent of a bruise but different enough to point out. More of these scars covered his hands and peeked out of his clothing. A few shorter ones showed up on Yugyeom, but there weren't nearly as many. Where had those come from again?

A lock turned in Jungkook's mind, opening the door the missing piece. The memories of that night flooded into his mind and confusion turned into horror. Tears started flowing endlessly, "Where's Tae?" His vocal chords clashed together painfully, but he begged for answers through the agony of speaking, "Where is he? He was there- They had him. Tell me he's safe. Please!"

Hoseok's eyes closed and he turned his head to the side, pain and hurt apparent in what was visible of his face. Yugyeom's entire body slumped. He looked away and clenched his jaw, afraid to speak. He really didn't need to; their reactions were all Jungkook needed in order to understand.

The alpha brought his hands up to cover his face. His body shook as he cried silently, occasionally letting out a pained cry of many mixed emotions.

The  tears carried on for nearly a half an hour before Jungkook was able to calm himself enough to communicate. By that time, the doctor had excused herself to give them privacy and the others had found seats by the bed. Jungkook, though tears were still falling and his breathing was still terribly uneven, pointed to a small notepad and pen on the bedside table, wordlessly asking for them.

Yugyeom, who was sitting closest to the objects, looked up from the spot he'd fixated on at the motion. He gladly handed the writing tools to his best friend, both anticipating and dreading what he would write.

Taking the notepad in his injured right hand and the pen in his non-dominant left, Jungkook began writing with shaky fingers gripped a little too tightly around the blue-inked writing utensil. He scribbled slowly, taking his time to make sure the words were legible. Once he was satisfied, he passed the note back and watched the others for their reactions.

'My ears are ringing so I can't hear well. How long have I been here?'

Yugyeom nudged Hoseok who had spaced off and handed him the note. The moon wolf read it carefully and then looked up at Jungkook. He smiled weakly and took the notepad, writing back:

'It's nearly been a full month. Your injuries have barely healed.'

Jungkook took the note. His head shot back up once he read it. A month? That was ridiculous! Even if he hadn't been doing well, he should be better than this. It was like he hadn't healed at all. He wrote quickly this time, not caring much for how his handwriting looked.

'Why?'

Yugyeom grimaced as he watched the moon wolf write his next response. Neither of them knew what exactly had happened, but they knew what had caused Jungkook's wounds and it made them sick.

'The doctor said that the combination of the silver and the inhibitor in your body brought your immune system to a crawl. You just got out of quarantine a week ago.'

Jungkook was in shock. He flipped the page to respond, but nothing came to mind for several minutes.

'Couldn't they have done a blood transfusion?'

Hoseok read the sloppy words and shook his head, writing back:

'They were scared your body would reject it. We couldn't find anyone with pure enough werewolf blood. Even if we somehow did, they might not have been a compatible type.'

Jungkook shut his eyes and let this new information sink in. He'd just lost a month and it would still likely take a while to recover. He returned to the notepad.

'How is everyone else?'

A mournful look flashed in Hoseok's eyes as he read, but the strength of a leader masked it as quickly as it appeared. He wrote for a while, taking up quite a bit of the limited paper.

'We lost more than expected. The hunters had new weapons that no one's been informed on, but that's not all. They didn't just bring their usual small human army. They had full fledged mature vampires. They weren't inhibited either. I'm sure you know what this means, but the world just got a lot more dangerous for us.'

Jungkook read the words carefully, a grim expression forming over his features. He sat with that for a while before flipping back to his previous question and handing it to Yugyeom specifically.

He smiled and nodded, finding the blank page again and simply writing:

'Everyone is okay.'

Jungkook let out a sigh of relief. At least there was one good thing about the situation.

'One last question. Did you find where they took Taehyung?'

Hoseok shook his head, looking up with a clear apology in his eyes. He turned his attention to the pen and paper, scribbling away to give the teenager a much deserved answer.

'No, I'm sorry. I looked everywhere for clues of any kind, but they covered their tracks too well. Don't worry, we'll find him.'

Jungkook read the words and then dropped the notepad, losing all interest in continuing the conversation. The tears that had finally stopped threatened to start again.

Taehyung was truly gone and they had no way to get him back.
