Jimin wasn't normally one to get jealous, but he couldn't really help it this time. Once the whole shock of Taehyung not being Hoseok's mate had settled in and calmed down, a small spark of hope had started. Of course it quickly turned into a raging fire once he had seen the moon alpha again.

He never liked to talk about sexual preferences because it was an awkward topic for him. Homosexuality had long been accepted into wolf culture. Most people supported LGBTQ+ in his pack, but there would always be a few that thought of it differently (most of the time it was a result of growing up with no one but humans). His parents just so happened to be such people. They completely supported same sex mates seeing as they knew it wasn't a choice. However, they definitely didn't approve of same sex attraction outside of that. This obviously had a major effect on Jimin since he'd had a crush on his childhood best friend ever since he could feel that kind of attraction. He never admitted to it. He never even told Taehyung, though he had mentioned his equal preference of both genders. He had always been scared that his parents would hate him. It was rare, but not totally unheard of for parents to abandon their young.

Despite his fear, Jimin had planned on coming out and confessing his feelings to Hoseok on his birthday. Now that was all ruined. After news spread around the pack about their next leader's mate, he had almost cried. He barely made it out of the community grounds in time to hide the fact that he was clearly upset. He had sprinted off into the tall grass fields that were close by, wanting to just escape everything and everyone, and ended up staying till it was dark out.

He had managed to calm down and collect his thoughts, but Jimin still didn't want to go home. So, as an alternative, he went to Taehyung's house — a.k.a. his second home. He wasn't lucky enough to have his friend answer the door, but he still ended up losing his composure at the sight of his second mother standing there. Tears burst out almost immediately and he was quickly pulled into a warm hug. Soon enough, Jimin could hear the other two wolves that lived in the house surround him, asking questions and trying to comfort. It helped...a bit.

It took a while for Jimin to calm down. When he did, he was greeted by three of his favorite people patiently waiting.

"Chim....what happened?" Taehyung's soothing voice calmed his nerves further.

"I...I really just wanna die right now Tae." He almost started crying again, but he managed to hold it in. "I don't care about finding my mate anymore. It's pointless now anyway."

Taehyung and his parents all looked at each other with confusion and concern. The worried omega looked back at Jimin and quickly moved to sit him down on the couch. "Mom, dad, can we talk in private for a bit?"

The two adults nodded and shuffled off to their room rather hesitantly. Once they were gone, Taehyung looked Jimin in the eyes and held onto his hands. "Is this about Hobi?"

The Beta's eyes widened. "How did you-" He closed his mouth and gulped, deciding that it would be better not to confirm anything until he knew exactly what Taehyung was referring to. "What do you mean?"

The young omega sighed. "Come on Jimin. I've known you have a crush on him for a long time. It's so obvious. He probably realized it too." He squeezed his friends hands in a comforting way. "I know that you really like him. I'm sorry he didn't turn out to be your mate. You shouldn't give up on your own though. Once you meet him or her, you'll forget all about Hoseok."

Jimin shook his head, once again crying. "It doesn't matter if it isn't him. I know I always go on about finding my mate and stuff, but I always hoped it would be him. I didn't care about he-heats...I just wanted to hu-hug him and smile together as more than just a friend." He leaned forward and started bawling into Taehyung's shoulder, letting everything out with no holding back.

Taehyung felt bad for Jimin, but he didn't know how to comfort him. He'd had crushes before, but they were just stupid little ones on different girls at school. Jimin had genuinely loved Hoseok since childhood, and he had just been told that he could never possibly have a chance at being with him. "I'm sorry Chim...I really am. You don't deserve this. I wish I could change fate for you."

Jimin just cried harder, holding onto Taehyung like his life depended on it. In that moment, he thought it did. His heart hurt and his head was starting to. His muscles ached from when he had been running just before he came back. He was tired and more heartbroken than he ever thought someone could be. He thought this kind of pain only happened when mates were separated, not when they were brought together.

Taehyung obviously didn't let Jimin go home in his condition, not that the beta wanted to anyway. They both slept in the living room, cuddled up together on the limited space the couch had to offer. The Beta woke up every few hours in a fit of sobs, each time resulting from a nightmare. Taehyung did his best to comfort his best friend, but there wasn't much he could do beside lend him a shoulder to cry on.

Once morning came, Taehyung tried to convince his mom to let them stay home from school, but she refused, saying it was the last school day of the week and they both had tests to take. He couldn't, more like wouldn't, argue with that, so they both went to school begrudgingly.
