Debbie Downer

It started off small, then it turned into a week or two or three

Everything is getting worse quick and you can't be happy

People say they've had it worse than you

But don't realize they're coercing you

To think your depression is all your fault

And trying to get help feels like talking to a wall

But I guess a fake smile is better than not one at all

If you're looking for someone to bring you down, you've found her.

They call me Debbie Downer, call me Debbie Downer

No one wants to be around her, call me Debbie Downer

Everything I say is so dark and depressing

I don't give them their sugar coated dressing

So when I express my feelings truthfully,

They act like something's wrong with me

When your room feels like a prisoner cell

Stuck between a rock and a hard place in hell

Treated like furniture, they just degrade you

You're moved to wherever they'll place you

I'd like to see you try it and let it not phase you

But they don't care about how you really feel

Honesty, to them, doesn't have the same appeal

You're not as fun anymore, so you're not ideal

If you're looking for someone to bring you down, you've found her.

They call me Debbie Downer, call me Debbie Downer

No one wants to be around her, call me Debbie Downer

Everything I say is so dark and depressing

I don't give them their sugar coated dressing

So when I express my feelings truthfully,

They act like something's wrong with me

And if you have nothing positive to say, just don't speak

Even when every day is looking bleak

And you've spent this whole week

Needing help, but you only get this critique

Now suddenly you're drowning

In this issue you're found in

And people saying to lighten up

Just aren't bright enough

To see that you're not some awful pessimist

You're just trying to make it through this

If you're looking for someone to bring you down, you've found her.

They call me Debbie Downer, call me Debbie Downer

No one wants to be around her, call me Debbie Downer

Everything I say is so dark and depressing

I don't give them their sugar coated dressing

So when I express my feelings truthfully,

They act like something's wrong with me
