Shells

Have you ever felt like an oversharer?

Tellin' everyone until someone cares

Because your parents were never there

It just isn't very fair

Who can you depend on emotionally?

Who can teach you the skills you need?

When you're left on your own, just like me

They hate you showing emotions when you have them

They act so superior when you cry, like they haven't

And it's so hard not to get upset,

But they haven't allowed me

It doesn't seem to matter how loud we,

Try to stand up for ourselves

We just hide in our shells

Because it's all we've ever known of

We're adults, but we're not grown ups

They don't seem to care about your feelings if your age ends in teen

They sweep away your problems without caring what they could mean

If you cry, then you're too weak to handle anything real

They expect you to be strong, but don't allow you to feel

Got depression? They say to walk it off!

Fake the happiness you've been stripped of

And it's so hard not to get upset,

But they haven't allowed me

It doesn't seem to matter how loud we,

Try to stand up for ourselves

We just hide in our shells

Because it's all we've ever known of

We're adults, but we're not grown ups

I fear for my whole generation

As we age and join the nation

We can hardly handle what we feel

I'm scared for when we take the wheel

Maybe, everything will be alright

Maybe, the dawn is after the night

And we're not going to rip this country apart

Because we're in touch with our hearts

We want to do your generation justice

But you're gonna have to trust us

And it's so hard not to get upset,

But they haven't allowed me

It doesn't seem to matter how loud we,

Try to stand up for ourselves

We just hide in our shells

Because it's all we've ever known of

We're adults, but we're not grown ups
