Chapter 23

RECAP

She began to perform the spell, her face full of concentration. Soon she opened her eyes and they were green, the same green that Scarlett had seen in the cafeteria.

"I don't understand, what's happening?" Veronica said frustrated.

"It's because you're holding yourself back, you can't be scared." Ethan explained. "Focus." Veronica furrowed her eyebrows but nodded and did what Ethan had said.

Slowly, a green light emitted from the palms of Veronica's hands and with a blink of an eye there was a flash of bright light and everyone covered their eyes.

"It worked." Veronica said in disbelief.

"I knew you could do it." Ethan said.

"Magic is amazing." Veronica replied. "Ok, Scarlett. You can open it now." She said standing up.

"Here it goes." She took a deep breath, stroking her hands across the engravings then slowly unveiling what was inside. She reached in and picked up the object which left everyone in awe.

It was an old Victorian style mirror, Scarlett stared at it confused. She was kneeling on the floor and slowly stood up, looking at the patterns on the back side of the mirror trying to make sense of them. Then she slowly flipped it over so that she was looking at her reflection.

"The answer...is you." Aurora said slowly. She came by Scarlett's side and held her by her shoulders. "Scarlett, you are the answer to the feud. You must solve the on-going confusion."

Scarlett was starting to breath rapidly, she was feeling overwhelmed. "I," She started backing away from the trunk so that she could look at everyone. "I-this is too much. I mean me? How am I the answer to all of this. I'm just a person, I thought there was going to be a spell or a potion or something in there." She was freaking out. "I need Adrian," She broke down. "I need to speak with him."

Just then the Manor's doors swung open revealing Adrian and Amanda. He stood there looking tired and worn out. There was silence and everyone looked over to Scarlett who had a relieved expression. "Adrian." She whispered, she finally exhaled and felt at peace.

"Adrian you found Amanda." William said giving Amanda a hug.

"Where were you?" her concerned aunt (Aurora) asked.

"She was surprisingly out doing what I was doing. Looking for help." Adrian said. "All of family and friends are in the manor in Nightshade, I told them that they could stay there for however long they'd like." He added. Then he looked at Scarlett.

"I did it." She smiled.

"I knew you could." He gave her a heart warming hug.

"But I don't know what to do with this now?" She asked handing him the mirror.

"Maybe it's a riddle?" Veronica asked.

"Yah, I think Veronica is right, maybe we could go and ask Caspian for help?" Ethan added.

"No, It's not a riddle. I've seen this mirror before." Adrian said. "Let's all go home and deal with this. Plus, mom, our relatives are waiting."

"You're right. Let's get going." She said.

"Veronica Ethan and I can zap ourselves there, we'll meet you there." Scarlett said.

"Ok, we'll meet at the Manor." Adrian said referring to his mansion.
