She shrieked in horror.

"Scarlett!" Eric and Grace turned around. They couldn't see her. They tracked back their steps but still couldn't find her.

"Er-" Adrian covered Scarlett's mouth, her eyes widened in shock. Adrian hated to do this, it was only because of what his father said. He was about to bite into her so that he didn't have to carry back a frantic person. He started to smell her and got closer. He had to stop himself, if he even did bite her there would be consequences. Then he shook his head. He couldn't do it.

"Scarlett! Where are you?" Eric screamed desperately. Grace was about to start weeping.

"We have to go get help." Grace was trying to get Eric's attention.

"Who, who will we tell?" He asked her.

"My uncle. He's a police officer, he can help us."

"Ok." he whispered, he hesitated to go. He looked at the forest one last time then left with Grace.

Scarlett saw them leaving her behind, she started to sob quietly. From a distance she could see them but then they faded away into the darkness. Adrian turned Scarlett around then jumped down from the tall pine tree, not letting her fall.

She looked up at him and her eyes balled out. She saw a hooded man holding her tightly, very close to her.

"Let me go." she whispered. Adrian saw the dread in her eyes.

"I said let me go!" She raised her voice.

"Do you know what I am?" he asked her quietly as if someone was listening and didn't want them to hear.

She was curious as to why he asked such a question. She shook her head.

"You don't know what I am?"

"No." She said furiously.

"Please, do not be angry. What I am doing now is against my will, my father sent me to get you and your friends." he pleaded.

"I have nothing to do with you, I haven't done anything wrong just please let me go, I'm new to Nightshade. I don't know that this is your territory or, whatever it is! Just please let me go." She was weeping, and gasping for air she was mortified and knew that the worst could happen.

Adrian wiped her tears. "Please do not cry. I am not like my father," he chuckled. He held her chin so she was looking directly in his eyes. "I would never harm you."

"Get away from me." She finally got away from his grasp and started to run away. Adrian felt pain he was hurt, even after consoling her she ran away. What would he tell his father? The council?

Scarlett could see a street light she was getting closer to her neighborhood. She slowed down then completely stopped, she turned around and saw that Adrian was still there he crouched down and leaned against the pine tree, burying his face into his knees.

"He didn't chase me," she whispered to herself. "he didn't mean me harm."

She started to walk back to the forest opening where Adrian was. The moon was brighter now. She stood in front of him waiting to see if he would look up.

Inside the forest she couldn't see what he looked like until now, he was pale just like the moon.

"Sorry. I didn't know better than to scream at you like that, you truly didn't mean any harm." Scarlett apologized she was looking down at him. She stuck her hand out to help him up, now she was slightly looking up at him.

"No, it is my fault, I just grabbed you like that." he didn't know what to say.

"I'm Scarlett Frost." She shook his hand that he was still holding.
