- "I love you both, too." -
Nova had traveled to London with Sam and Steve for Peggy's funeral. The two stood their suits in the pews while Steve carried Peggy's casket down with a few more people. His cheeks were puffy and red from crying.
"And no, I would like to invite Sharon Carter to come up and say a few words." The vicar said after the ceremony.
Sharon stood at the podium and Sam nudged Steve who looked at him before looking up at Sharon. Nova was already looking up their, slightly confused.
"Margaret Carter was known to most as a founder of S.H.I.E.L.D., but I just knew her as Aunt Peggy. She had a photograph in her office. Aunt Peggy standing next to JFK. As a kid, that was pretty cool. But it was a lot to live up to. Which is why I never told anyone we were related. I asked her once how she managed to master diplomacy and espionage in a time when no one wanted to see a woman succeed at either. She said, compromise where you can. But where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye and say 'No, you move.'" Sharon finished.
Steve stood in the church with Nova by his side. The woman threw an arm around his shoulder, bringing him into a half hug and squeezing his shoulder reassuringly. Natasha approached the two.
"When I came out of the ice, I though everyone I had known was gone. Then I found out she was alive. I was just lucky to have her." Steve sighed, looking over to Natasha.
"She had you back, too." Natasha smiled lightly.
"Who else signed?" Steve questioned.
"Tony, Rhodey, Vision." Natasha listed with a small nod.
"Clint?" Steve asked.
"Says he's retired." Natasha answered.
"Wanda?" Steve quizzed.
"TBD." Natasha stated. "I'm off to Vienna for the signing of the Accords. There's plenty of room on the jet. Just because it's the path of least resistance, doesn't mean it's the wrong path. Staying together is more important than how we stay together."
"What are we giving up to do it?" Steve asked and Natasha sighed through her nose. "I'm sorry, Nat. I can't sign it."
"I know." Natasha nodded.
"Then what are you doing here?" Steve questioned.
"I didn't want you to be alone." Natasha smiled warmly and brought Steve into a hug that he gladly returned.
They pulled back and Natasha looked up at Nova who was already looking down to her.
"I'll let you talk." Steve smiled sadly before leaving the church.
"You're not signing it, are you?" Natasha asked, softly after some silence.
"I can't, Tasha. I'm sorry." Nova shook her head.
"I know that." Natasha smiled sadly, wrapping her arms around Nova's neck. "I just don't want this to effect us."
"It won't. We love you, doll face, and that won't change, I assure you." Nova smiled, wrapping her in a warm hug.
"I love you both, too." Natasha whispered.
Nova and Natasha pulled back from the hug and Nova dipped down a little, pressing a lingering kiss to the red heads plump lips. Natasha melted against her, the kiss never failing to make her smile no matter how many times they did it.
