Chapter 11-Meeting of the Minds

Dr. Roberts Pov

As I pulled up in front of Sean’s Condo, I saw Mr. and Mrs. X sitting in their truck. As I parked behind them and get out I saw them also exit their truck and walk towards me.

“Phil.” said Mr. X, greeting me.

Nodding my head I smile "Mr and Mrs X.” Mrs. X looked so worried as her hands shook. I can only imagine what is going on in her head.

“Phil, I just got off the phone with my contact. Damien has pulled some strings and will be released tomorrow. We don't have a week. I want to know of your plan before we go in here. You know how Emily feels about the Academy. I don't want her thinking we are tricking her or pulling something over on her.”

“I understand that, but since he is getting released early and we know he is coming, we need to be ready. I thing we should have team Blackbourne get close to her and keep her protected. They are around the same age so they can go places with her I where I cannot. Let's face it, I look like her father, not a close friend. I talked to Team Toma and they will be taking Damien down. They will be waiting on him to make a move.”

Mr. X said "We have been asking a lot of them and they are still going on two other assignments. One is three weeks long. Are you sure they can handle this? Plus, they just lost their bird only two years ago. Can they handle another bird? We want Emily safe. She is our top priority. We didn't even know she was working with them."

“Exactly my point. They know how to protect our precious bird. Sang was a ghost bird and they were excellent as a team. Yes, I admit they have been working too much, but we allow it because we know they can and they will. We are just as guilty as them."

Mrs X said "They ran a background check on Emily and they were going to discuss it when I called. I don't know if they have started or not. What is going to happen when this comes out. I am worried on how they will react.”

“With all due respect Mr and Mrs X. They were going to find out anyway. That’s just how Owen is. He likes all the information before he makes a decision. You are going to have to tell them the truth. I know they lost their bird almost two years ago, but it's time for them to move on. This will help them and help Emily too. Its what they call a win-win.”

Mrs X. says, “What happens if they say no, or Emily says no or does not like them.”

I say “ You two have the power to make a deal with the Blackbourne Team. I will talk to Sean and Owen separately if need be to see if I can convince them, but you know this team makes decisions as a family."

"I will be seeing Emily tonight for dinner so I will talk to her. I know she met with Owen, Sean, North, Victor and Gabe today. She likes them and I'm sure it will be alright with her. She will be upset, but I will tell her I am here for her. I will not let anyone hurt her again. I was not able to stop if the first time, but I will make damn sure that was the last time.”

Mrs. X turned to her husband saying “Love, I like them watching over her. She would fit in with them so well, especially since she hows about the Academy but has not joined. She will understand them going on missions and such. She really does not have anyone her age to talk to. Maybe this will work out for everyone in the end."

"Phil can be there as their guide and he will keep us informed. We can't be here with her. As much as we want to, we can't and she knows that. We will go see her once we leave here, but you know she will not want us here. I agree with Phil. It's time to tell the truth and I think the Blackbourne Team will benefit as well. If need be, I will make any deals that need to be made Love.”

Mr. X looked lovingly at his wife and then exhaled “Fine. If you two think it's best then let's get this over with. I want to see Emily for myself to see how she is doing. I just don't want this spread all over the Academy.”

“Don't worry love. It won't. I will make sure of that.”

They turned towards me. Mrs. X smiled and waving her hand at the window said "Let's go. I'm sure they are tired of looking out the window at us and probably nervous as hell. They been taking turns looking out since we pulled up.”

Walking up to the front door she smiled and said "Let's put them out of their misery, shall we?"
