high school sweethearts

Highschool sweethearts. A first love if you will. When you think you're incapable of love because of how badly you got hurt. And three months later, you met them. You didn't know it then, but that day, you didn't only meet your best friend, but also met the person who you would fall in love with. It has been so long since you've felt love so you were confused about what the feeling was in your stomach when you saw them. Whenever you lay your eyes on them, your heart pounds so loudly that if they were to stop talking and listen, they would hear just how fast your heart beats for them and only them. You have learnt how to love once again. You are undoubtedly in love with this person and they had no idea. They had no idea just how far you would go to keep them happy. You love them with every ounce of your heart and soul. If only you were lucky enough for them to realise how in love you actually are. 

In Toni's case, by some miracle, she was that lucky. Cheryl finally came to her senses and realised how in love Toni Topaz was with her. Of course, that should have been such a life changing feeling for the redhead, so why did it hurt her? Why did it feel as if the world was engulfing her into a black hole with no exit. Why did it suffocate her? She wanted to be in love with her, and it wasn't even the fact that she found it hard to fall for someone again, it was how scared she was. How scared she was of letting herself become so vulnerable. Cheryl was meant to be this badass popular chick with an astonishing reputation, not some scared-to-fall-in-love loner. 

Toni surrounded herself with family. Not biological family, but the type of family who she chose. This was the serpents. They had always welcomed Toni with open arms, despite her background and sexuality etc. She couldn't have been more grateful for them, even Jughead. When Toni first walked through the brown doors of Riverdale High, Cheryl immediately caught Toni's attention, she knew what she wanted and she went after it.

Cheryl on the other hand, grew up with a family she didn't want to be around. They had never gave one bit of attention to Chery, meaning she was neglected her whole life. She had to find some way to build back up her walls in school to hide the fact her home life was far from perfect. So she did. She became the schools IT girl, prom queen and student body. What more could she have wanted? However, the walls she had spent her whole life rebuilding were knocked down the very day Toni entered her life. Toni had showed Cheryl how to be a herself, how to be more amazing than she already was, and most importantly, she tried to show her how to accept love. 

Which brings us to their first kiss.

"Toni, I cannot wear this hideous green colour, It doesn't match with the necklace!" She moaned, walking out of the bathroom. 

"Then change the necklace." Toni said from the bed, rolling onto her back and getting up. "Your body looks amazing in that dress." She muttered to herself.

"I'm not changing the necklace for a stupid fucking dress, get that in your head!" She yelled, something she had never let herself do in front of Toni before. As soon as those words left her mouth, she turned around to face the brunette, who had a solemn expression painted all over her face. "Shit."

"Are you okay?" Cheryl shook her head at Toni's question, letting a tear fall from her eyelid. Toni took her hand and sat her on the bed, letting her talk when she's ready. Cheryl felt awful, so did Toni. But for completely opposite reasons. Toni was worried about Cheryl, she hadn't been herself for days, if not weeks. Cheryl was worried that she was falling in love.

"I'm so scared, Toni." 

"Of what?"

"I'm scared that what I'm feeling is love." She sobbed. Toni stared into Cheryl's eyes, and smiled. 

"Maybe you're not scared of love, but what those you've loved have done to you." She smartly remarked, leaving Cheryl confused. 

"But they haven't done anything to me; I did that to myself."
