I spent the night at Blake's again that night. I didn't feel like being alone after telling him about what my mom said. That night we just stayed in his bed as the rain fell hard on the windows and I grew comfortable in his embrace.
The next morning I called Julie and told her I want the job. She tells me to come in about a week and a half so I can sign a contract and meet some of the players and then I'll bring starting next month! That's when I realized that I haven't even told my parents. I needed to. Like soon. I haven't seen them in probably two weeks. I've talked to my dad almost everyday but I haven't even thought about giving my mother the time of day every since the party. Blake and I were flying to Oklahoma this weekend. He played the Thunder Monday night but we were flying in a couple days early to see his family. I hadn't even told my parents that I was going with him.
"Good morning," Blake said stepping out of the bathroom with a white towel around his waist.
"Morning," I said groggily as I sat up against the headboard.
"What are your plans for the day?" He asks running a hand through his wet hair.
"Well I need to go home. I need to do laundry and go to the grocery store, get some stuff at Target and I guess tell my parents that I'm leaving for a few days."
"Ok. Well I'll tell you what. How about you call me whenever you get done running your errands and I'll come over tonight. We can go get dinner and I'll spend the night," he said sitting near me on the edge of his bed.
"That sounds good," I said leaning in to give him a kiss.
"Hey," he said holding my hand. "I'm glad that you felt like you could tell me that last night," he said. I didn't say anything. I just nodded as he scooted toward me and hugged me. He smelled so good and the weight of his hands resting on my back felt like they belonged there. I threw on a pair of jeans and another one of Blake's tshirts and headed home. It was kind of strange I hadn't seen my house it what felt like weeks but it had only been three or four days. When I pulled into my drive way I saw my mother's car was there. Was she just waiting for me? After putting my car in the garage I went out to see if she wanted to come in but she wasn't even in her car. As I went back into my house through the garage I heard the TV on.
"Mom?" I called out setting my purse on the dining room table and going into the living room.
"Sophie there you are. Where have you been? I've been here since early this morning," she standing up and going over to the fridge and getting a bottle of water.
"What were you waiting on?" I ask confused.
"You. I haven't seen you in nearly four days. What's been going on with you?" She asks sitting back down on the couch.
"Listen, let's just talk. Let me talk and you listen. I have a lot to say," I said sitting on the opposite side of the couch.
"Wait, before you start where have you been? You haven't been home."
"I've been at Blake's, I told you that when I left the party I was going home with him. Now listen. I was offered a job."
"A job? Sophie that's great! Where at?"
"With the Lakers. The head of physical therapy needs more help especially with rehabbing and stuff like that. So I'm going next week to sign a contract and meet some of the players and staff."
"That's excellent Sophie. I'm so happy for you!We have to celebrate. Let's go out tonight!"
"Mom, not tonight. I have errands to run and plans later tonight."
"Plans? Sophie we never see you anymore. You always have these plans with him. What makes him so special anyways? He just plays basketball for crying out loud!" She yelled holding her hands up.
"Mom. I'm an adult. I'm allowed to have plans. And you better get used to me not always being around when I start this new job. I have to travel with the team. So when they have a game in Texas I'm going to Texas. And I'm leaving for Oklahoma the day after tomorrow."
"Oklahoma? What the hell is in Oklahoma?"
"Blake is playing there on Sunday and we're going to visit his parents before hand. So I'll be back Monday or Tuesday night."
"Sophie, I don't think this is the best idea I mean you aren't serious about this guy. I know he's just someone to have fun with so I don't think you should get too caught up."
"Mom, you don't understand," I said looking down at the floor.
"No, I do. Trust me Sophie I used to have these things all the time and--"
"No mom. You don't," I said interrupting her.
"Excuse me?" She said taken back.
"I love him mom," I said looking back up at her.
"Sophie. Don't be ridiculous. You don't love him," she said taking a sip of her water.
"Yes, mom I do. I love him. And I know that's not what you want to hear but that's how it is. That's how it's going to be and there is nothing you can do about it," I said to her.
"Well, I can tell you that you are making the wrong decision by going and seeing his family and making some big ordeal out of nothing," she snapped.
"Just leave," I said getting up and pointing to the front door.
"Sophie don't be like this," she said rolling her eyes.
"Leave please. I don't want to talk about this with you anymore," I said as she got her purse and walked out the front door slamming it behind her. I went behind her locking the door and going upstairs to start some laundry.
