Dancing Into New Reality

The next couple days passed by fairly quickly. Between Laker and Clipper games, the only time Blake and I had for each other was the ten minutes before we passed out in the bed. And by Friday we were exhausted. Friday was the first day that neither of us had work and we found ourselves sleeping until nearly eleven.

I woke up before Blake and decided to make a breakfast run. Taylor and Marieka were dropping off Blake's parents around three this afternoon. After putting some clothes that were a little more decent than pajamas, I headed to a little bakery just outside our neighborhood and picked up two breakfast sandwiches and two smoothies. I would prefer coffee but I'm trying to get off my caffeine kick with the baby. Now, I will admit when traveling I will go to Starbucks once or twice, but Blake doesn't know that. And he doesn't have to know that. What he doesn't know won't hurt him.

On the drive back home I felt myself beginning to worry a little bit. What if Tommy and Gail weren't thrilled like Blake and I expected them to be? Blake always said they are always asking Marieka and Taylor when they're going to have a baby, but they are married. They've been married for a few years now and we aren't even engaged.

Pulling into the garage I decided not to think about it anymore. I opened the door and was greeted by Chaney and the sound of Blake's heavy footsteps coming down the stairs.

Jesus Christ. I couldn't even stop myself from staring. He was wearing very fitting briefs. He never wore briefs. Like ever. They outlined and highlighted everything. I mean everything. And no shirt on as usual. I felt myself get a little warm as I stood at the foot of the stairs watching him come down. He was rubbing his eyes and yawning as I continued to stare at him. I felt that I got turned on at the drop of the hat. I mean before this would've been a tease but now I just want to jump on him and tell him to take me upstairs. I saw him in the kitchen eating a sandwich and I just thought it was so sexy? It was strange but so hot. And honestly I better get all that I can now. I mean who is gonna want this at five or six months? Not him. Not anyone. I felt my palms get a little clammy as he got closer to me. He was scratching his chest and yawning.
"Hey baby," he said.
"Hey," I said nervously. It's like I couldn't even focus on what he was staring without imagining what was behind those very, very fitted briefs.
"Did you go somewhere?"
"Yeah, I got us some breakfast. Did you sleep ok?"
"Yeah, I did. I mean it's almost noon. Haven't slept that long in a while," he said coming into the kitchen with me.
"Here, sit down," I said pointing to the table and I gave him his sandwich as smoothie.
"You're not gonna eat right now?" He said taking a bite.
"I will in a minute," I said sitting in the seat next to him. We both sat in comfortable silence for a few moments as Blake inhaled his breakfast and I sipped on a smoothie.

"So how are we telling them?" I asked Blake.
"Well, I mean I was just gonna tell them," Blake said wiping the corners of his mouth with a napkin.
"No, we can't just tell them," I said shaking my head.
"That's what you did with your parents...right?"
"Well, yeah but I want this to be better. You know how that went? I left crying as usual--not happy tears. I want your mom and dad to be excited. I just want it to be like it's supposed to be."
"How is it supposed to be?"
"All the future grandparents are supposed to be thrilled. Like already buying stuff and posting on Facebook and already trying to bet whether the baby is a boy or a girl. And we should be planning a baby shower and a babymoon and all of that. It's just not how I planned."
"Soph, I keep telling you that not everything has to fit into a preconceived plan. It really doesn't. And what in god's name is a babymoon? Is that something you can get at Target or something?" Blake said getting up.
"I know, I know. And no, you can't buy a babymoon at Target," I said laughing. "It's like a honeymoon but before you have a baby. You and your husband or boyfriend or significant other go on a trip. It's like that last slither of time spent together before you have your baby."
"Ahhh, this is news to me. I think I need to write this down," Blake said pulling out his phone and typing.
"Blake, but that's not important right now. What's important is telling your parents," I said to him sternly.
"Oh, look I almost forgot to show you what I had put in yesterday," Blake said still on his phone. "Look," he said as he pushed one final button and music started to play throughout the house. It was "All of Me" by John Legend. I rolled my eyes at the fact that Blake was more concerned with his damn Bluetooth speakers than telling his parents they are getting a god damn grandchild.
"It's Bluetooth!" He said excitedly.
"Yeah, I know it's Bluetooth," I snapped over the loud music.
"Oh c'mon Soph. You know what-- come here," Blake said grabbing my hand and leading me out of my chair. He grabbed one of my hands and intertwined it with his and the other one snaked around my waist. Naturally, my hand also grabbed his waist as he swayed us to rhythm of the music.
"You're my end and my beginning, even when I lose I'm winning," Blake sang as I continued to roll my eyes.
"You're ridiculous," I laughed.
"You're crazy and I'm out of my mind!" He continued as I nearly burst out into tears from laughing.
"There's that laugh and smile," he said grinning as we continued to dance on the tile floor of kitchen. "Thought I lost you there for a minute."
"No, but you still never answered my question," I said as I rested my head on his chest.
"We can do whatever you want. They'll be here about four or so. We can get a cake, a baby outfit thing, a picture...whatever you want to do."
"A picture...we can do a picture of the sonogram!" I gasped.
"We can do that."
"Oh my gosh, we can like put it on the refrigerator and tell your mom to go look at the new picture we put up and then she will flip!"
"She wouldn't know what to do with herself," Blake said laughing.

It was nearly four before we heard the anticipated knock at the door.
"Hello," I said opening the door to see nearly the whole Griffin family standing outside.
"Sophie, how are you honey?" Gail asked giving me a big hug.
"I'm doing well, thank you. Here let me take that," I said taking her bag off her shoulder.
"Hello, dear," Tommy said with a big smile on his face.
"Hi, Tommy," I said hugging him. "Here, leave your stuff right here and I'll go put it in your room.
"And where is Blake?" Gail asked.
"Um, that's a good question...Blake?" I call out as I went upstairs to put some of Tommy and Gail's stuff in their room.
"Hey, sorry I'm coming," Blake said shutting down his computer in his little office area.
"What were you doing?" I asked shutting the guest bedroom door.
"Just responding to some emails. Where are their suitcases? I'll put them up here," Blake said going down the stairs.
"There he is!" Tommy said.
"Hey, dad," Blake said hugging his father and going over to his mother to give her a kiss.
"Where are Taylor and Marieka?" Blake asked heading back up the stairs.
"Oh they had some dinner plans with some friends of theirs. But we're all having dinner together after your game tomorrow," Gail said.
"Oh that's right. Taylor did tell me that," Blake said coming back down the stairs and joining his parents and I at the table.
"So how was your flight?" I asked.
"It was fine. Just fine," Tommy said.
"Good. You guys need a drink? water? Tea? Coffee?"
"Can I have a water?" Gail asked.
"Of course," I said getting up and getting her one out of the fridge and handing it to her.
"Thank you Sophie. So how's the everything?"
"Everything is good. Really good." I said.
"Yeah, it is. Did you see our new picture on the fridge mom?" Blake asked.
"No, I didn't. Let me see," she said getting up and going over to the refrigerator.
"It's the black and white one next to the one of Chaney," Blake said.
"Oh my god!" Gail gasped.
