After getting home from my morning out with Jackson I decided to take a nap. Even though my headache had gotten better I felt the need to sleep for the next three hours with no interruption. That was until my mother called me nearly two hours into my nap.
"Hello?" I said groggily.
"Sophie, honey. Are you alright? Have you been resting?" She always had the sense of urgency in her voice.
"Yes mom I was just sleeping."
"Oh good. I'm glad. I'm sure you're feeling better. Now, I want to go to dinner with you. We can go to Nobu. I know that's your favorite."
"Mom, I thought I was supposed to be resting. You know staying in bed and watching Real Housewives."
"Honey. You can't just stay cooped up in that house all day. Now, I'll tell you what. I will come pick you up at 6:30. We have reservations at 7:15. You know how the traffic is downtown."
"Yes, I know how bad the traffic is mother which is why we shouldn't even waste our time going" I bark at her.
"Alright Soph, I am going to Dr. O'Connor to get my monthly injections of Botox but I'll see you at 6:30. Wear something nice. Act like you want to go to dinner with your mother."
"Oh trust me there will only be acting" I spat as I hung up the phone. It was already 4:19 and there was no point in trying to go back to sleep. I go to my closet and see what I could wear tonight and I settle on light wash jeans and a black long sleeved silk top. I paired it with my favorite cork wedges and dangly gold earrings. After I laid out my clothes on my bed I decided to run a bath and pour myself a glass of wine because who know what my mother may throw my way tonight. As I slip into the bathtub and take me first sip my phone rings. I can only pray that it is not my mother. Thankfully, when I see his name flash across the screen I let out a sigh as butterflies begin to infest the inside of my stomach.
"Hey you. Long time no see."
"Ahahah, right? Well that's why I called to fix this. I was wondering if you wanted to hang out later tonight?"
"Date number three already?"
"I'm not the one who's been counting" he laughs to himself
"What did you have in mind?"
"Well how about the movies? Like around 10:30? We could go see American Sniper, Selma, Fifty Shades of Grey?"
"Haha, you're cute Jackson. Really cute but that sounds good. Maybe not 50 Shades but a movie."
"Good. How about we go to the theatre just outside Manhattan Beach. I know that's a bitt of a drive but it's not as crowded."
"Are you not a people person Jackson?" I ask question him curiously.
"Well, no. Yes, I am a people person. But I just like to enjoy my movie without 40 other people you know?"
"I gotcha. Well I gotta go get dressed and stop myself from drinking this whole bottle of wine before my mom gets here."
"Are you saying that you're naked?" I could hear the smirk forming on his face as he asked me.
"Well, considering that I am in the bathtub yes. I'm naked" I felt my cheeks grow warmer as he let out a deep rich laugh over the phone.
"I see, I see. Well let me let you go so and I'll see you tonight. I'll pick you up."
"Bye Jackson." After hanging up I got out of the tub and set the half empty bottle of wine on my sink and wrapped up in my robe and began to brush my hair. I decided to put my hair in a low bun. Simple yet stylish and a great way to show off my earrings. After getting dressed and putting on makeup I grabbed my gray Céline and threw my phone, wallet, and lipgloss inside and headed downstairs to wait for my mother. It was soon enough that I heard a knock at my door.
"Hi mom" I said to her smiling softly.
"Hello sweet heart" she said bringing me in for a tight hug.
"You ready to go?"
"Yep, let's go. I'm getting hungry."
"There's my Soph. I take it you're feeling better."
"Yes, mom. I'm feeling much better and I'm sure I'll be even better after tonight" after saying that I felt myself nearly getting a little hot and flustered. How would my mother react if I told her about Jackson? I better just keep it to myself for now. We soon arrived to Nobu and were seated a small table near the bar. I could see that there were quite a large group of guys gathered by the bar laughing to themselves. From the back they were cute. Nice dress shirts. A nice balance of micro prints, well kept hair, and asses that rounded out their dress pants well. As I began to look at the menu I heard a familiar laugh coming from the bar. I mean it was probably no one.
"Oh my goodness look that!"
"What?"
"That cutie over there standing next to the guy in the striped shirt, is Blake Griffin."
"Who is Blake Griffin?"
"He plays for the Los Angeles Clippers. You know your father and I have season tickets and Blake is doing great this year. And he is easy on the eyes." As I turned around I saw the guy who my mother was calling I realized that the rich laugh was coming from the same man. Jackson. Jackson was Blake Griffin? I'm not well spoken in sports but now that I thought about it Jackson was very well built. Tall too. I wouldn't be surprised if he were seven feet tall. But why in the world would he tell me his name is Jackson? That has no relation to Blake.
"What do you think of him Soph? He's cute right?" Her eyes lit up like she herself would tap that. But I mean I would too. I mean I may be potentially tapping that piece of ass. But we need to get that who identity thing cleared up. He never did say what he actually did for a living. I mean I know he went to school for physical therapy but he didn't say that he went into pro basketball.
"Sophie. Are you alright?" She said looking at me confused.
"Yeah, mom I'm fine. Let's talk about something else. What are you getting?"
"I think salmon. Now, excuse me your father is trying to call me so I'm going to step outside for a moment and then go freshen up in the ladies room ok? Order me a glass of moscato would you Sophie?"
"Of course. Take your time" I say giving her a warm smile. After I can no longer see her. I dig in my purse for my phone and begin to call. "Jackson" or whatever the hell his name is for goodness sakes.
"Hey Sophie! Are we still on for the movies tonight?"
"Uh yeah probably. I don't know." I see him start to look a little concerned while sipping on his drink.
"Is everything ok?"
"Yes. No. No it's not. I'm at Nobu."
"Wait, what?"
"I see you. You're sitting at the bar with all of those guys and my mom saw you and she was going on about how cute you are an--"
"Your mom thinks I'm cute?" He says laughing a bit.
"That's beside the point! She keeps calling you Blake. Blake Griffin. And you are in the NBA. And I'm sitting here looking like an idiot yelling at someone on the phone who is nearly 100 feet away from me."
"Oh. I see. Where are you sitting?"
"No! You are not coming over here to talk to me while my mom and I are having dinner. We will talk tonight. Ok?"
"Ok. I'll come over and we can talk. I can talk."
"Yeah that sounds more like it" I spat hanging up the phone quickly. Soon the waiter came back with our drinks and my mother came back from the ladies room.
"Did you already order? Like our food?" She asked me.
"Yes. I got you the salmon with rice pilaf and a Florida roll no ginger."
"That's my girl. Now I'd really like to introduce you to the young man over there. Your father and I met him last week at the game and he's so nice. Good guy." What the hell was my mother doing talking to him? Aren't you just supposed to go to games and watch? There's no mingling with the players.
"No, no that's ok. He's out with his friends and we shouldn't bother him." And just then I see at least 10 high school girls flocking toward him asking for pictures and for him sign their shirts.
"See mom, he already gets a lot of that. I don't want to be another pest." I could see my mother sigh in her seat and roll her eyes. Trust me I wanted to run over there slap him and then makeup and then him kiss me. Take me back to his place. Bang my brains out and then take me to breakfast in the morning. That's what I really wanted but I couldn't let him off this easy. After we were finished eating I could still see Jackson hanging out at the bar with the same people. The bar was scattered with glasses ranging from half empty to full and a variety of appetizers. I was playing on my phone while mother was finishing her cup of coffee when our waiter came over.
"Excuse me, miss?" He said as he interrupted my thoughts causing me to look up.
"A gentleman at the bar sent this over" he said as he set a napkin that said "not a Barbie, but pretty and pink just how you like them" signed with an elaborate "J" and then on top of that a small pink drink garnished with a lime on the rim on the table. I began to giggle to myself and look over at the bar to see that he was gone.
"Who is that from?" My mother questioned.
"Some guy that was sitting at the bar. It's nothing."
"Mhmmm...it looks like someone has a little admirer" she said finishing off her coffee.
"Well, he may not be the only admirer."
