"Blake! How ya doin' buddy?" My dad said slapping Blake's back a little.
"Mr. Jackson, I'm good, how are you?" Blake asked standing up putting his hand out to be shook.
"Couldn't be better," my dad said smiling. I then gave my dad a hug and a kiss before looking at my mother.
"Let's play nice today," my dad whispered before taking his seat that was across from Blake's.
"Hey mom," I said softly. She looked stiff as usual.
"Hello Sophie, how are you dear?" She said hugging me tightly. This was unusual. She was hugging me for a while now as I just stood there trying to like it but it felt so forced. After we let go she looked at Blake and gave him half a smile.
"Hello, Mrs. Jackson," he said holding out his hand.
"Hello...Blake? Isn't it?" She asked playing dumb. She knew what his fucking name was. She was the one who told me his real name in the first place dumbass.
"Yes ma'am, Blake," he said smiling before taking his seat next to me. There was a very awkward moment of silence when we sat down until my dad finally spoke up.
"So congratulations to our working girl!" My dad said patting my hand.
"Thank you, Daddy," I said blushing.
"Yes, that's really wonderful that you got that job Sophie. So when do you start?" She asked.
"In a couple of weeks. I went in yesterday and met the head coach, and some of the players which was really great."
"Did you meet Black Mamba?" My dad said excitedly as I nodded my head in response.
"That's my girl!" He said holding up my hand for a high five. Our waiter returned taking our order and Blake's hand took his usual spot; resting on my thigh. It showed sort of his authority which was kind of hot.
"So, you ready for the game tomorrow Blake?" My dad asked.
"Yes sir. Golden State is a hard one to beat but I think we can do it."
"Well, I will be at the game rooting for you," my dad said smiling.
"Awe really? Maybe you can hang around after the game and meet Chris and DJ," Blake offered.
"Oh that would be awesome! Soph are you going?"
"Yeah, I'm meeting with some friends before but I'll be there. Maybe you could sit with me?" I asked turning to Blake.
"Oh yeah absolutely. Just go to will call with Sophie and Rita will take care of y'all."
My dad and Blake continued chatting as my mother sat there still stiff as a board. God damn it what is her problem?
"So what have you been up to?" I asked her scooting forward in my chair.
"Nothing much. Just been at home," she said bluntly.
"Oh, ok," I said not knowing really what else to say.
"I see that you have not been home much lately," she said rolling her eyes at me.
"Mom, are we really gonna do this here? Really. Right now?" I asked her sharply.
"I'm just saying Sophie I think you two are moving a little too fast don't you think?" She asked taking a sip of her wine.
"No, I really don't. And can you not remember that I'm almost 24? I'm not getting any younger."
"Oh stop it. You know what you're doing and you know it's wrong," she hissed at me. I could still hear my dad and Blake talking while my mother and I bitched at each other.
"Soph, you never told me, how was Oklahoma?" My dad asked as our food was brought out.
"It was good. I had a really nice time and Blake's parents are great," I said smiling up at Blake as he grabbed my hand under the table and squeezed it tightly.
"Good, I'm glad you two had fun, now listen Blake. Soph was telling me that you and your dad are looking into going to a Dodgers game?"
"Yeah, my folks are coming out here in a few weeks and my dad has been asking me to take him to one," Blake said.
"Well, let's all go to one. Me, you, your dad, and Soph said you have a brother that lives here?"
"Yes sir. My older brother, Taylor lives in Santa Cruz. But that would be awesome! I think my dad would really enjoy it."
"Good. Here give me your number and we can talk later," my dad said pulling out his phone. It made me feel so warm that they were getting along. It gave me some hope. I'd always been close with my dad and I knew it would stay like that. I'd called him almost everyday and I had no problem telling him that Blake and I were hanging. And he always asked how he was doing. As for my mother, she couldn't give two shits.
"So Blake," my mother said out of nowhere. "You went to college right?" She asked him.
"Yes ma'am, I went to OU."
"Right. And you graduated from there correct?"
"No, I went my freshman, sophomore and part of my junior year majoring in sports medicine," Blake said.
"Oh ok. What happened?"
"I was drafted so I left to go join the league."
"So you don't have a degree in sports medicine or anything higher than an AA correct?" She said pretentiously.
"No ma'am," Blake said looking down a bit.
"Mhmm, and Sophie that's why this man is no good for you." She said smacking her napkin down on the table.
"Mom!" I shouted at her.
"Kimberly. That's enough," my dad said through his clenched teeth.
"Sophie, it's fine," Blake said touching my arm softly.
"No, no it's not fine. I'm not going to sit here and let you, my boyfriend be ridiculed by her." I felt like the whole restaurant was staring now which they were.
"I'm not going to sit here and not tell you what I really think of this basketball playing boyfriend of yours," she snapped again.
"Kimberly, for goodness sakes she's 23 years old. She worked her ass off in school, she's already got a job, she stays out of trouble, and she's got a boyfriend. So what? He's a very nice respectable man that treats our daughter well. And he plays basketball? Big whoop. It's a job and a career just like mine. So please for the love of God get off your high horse for once and have a little respect. She's our daughter and he's her boyfriend," my dad said sternly to my mother. God I had never heard him stand up to my mother like that before. Go dad.
"Now, I think it's time for us to leave. Let's go Kimberly. Blake good seeing you bud, I'm gonna call you about the Dodgers game and I'll see you tomorrow night," my dad said giving Blake a handshake and throwing $200 on the table. I then saw my mom walking away from the table and out of the restaurant.
"Absolutely," Blake said softly.
"Thank you," I said as my dad stood in front of me with an exhausted look on his face.
"Of course sweetheart. She needs to learn. I'm not going to just let her say whatever to whoever especially to Blake. It's uncalled for."
"I know. And I just don't know what to do because--" I said cutting myself off.
"Because what Sophie?" My dad asked concerned.
"Because I love him and I want this to last."
"And that's perfectly fine. She'll come around sooner or later."
"And if she doesn't?"
"Then you do what makes you happy," my dad said.
"I love you," I said wrapping my arms around him and putting my head on his shoulder.
"I love you too Sophie," he said kissing the top of my head and slowly letting me go.
"Thank you again."
"Anything for you. Now, go cheer him up. Tell him not to worry about her. She's got a stick up her ass most of the time. Maybe this time she has two," he said pointing to Blake.
"Ok, bye Daddy," I said going back to sit next to Blake. He was attending to something on his phone with his head down. I sat toward him putting one hand on his back running small circles on it and the other across his chest. I just sat there still rubbing his back not saying anything as he sat there slumped in his chair.
"I hope you know I don't think any less of you because you didn't graduate," I finally said causing Blake to pick up his head a little.
"I know you don't. It's just I don't know what to do to make her at least tolerate me."
"She's just like that. She'll come around one day. Or if she doesn't she doesn't."
"But, does she realize that were serious?"
"I mean I've told her. And my dad has told her. She probably has just chosen to ignore it."
"I hope you know that I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon," Blake said looking at me.
"And neither do I, unless it's with you," I said smiling at him and giving him a soft peck on his lips. I could see a small smile begin to form on his face as his mopey look began to fade away.
"There you go, there's that smile I love," I said giving his cheek a little pat. "Now, you ready to get out of here?" I asked him.
"Yeah, but first lets go to the bathroom," he said which made me furrow my eyebrows.
"Go to the bathroom?" I asked him.
"Yeah, c'mon," he said getting up me tugging on my hand. I got up as he led me to the back of the restaurant where the bathrooms were.
"Wait here," he said letting go of my hand and going into the men's bathroom. I looked behind me to see that no one was coming. What was he doing anyways?
"Come here," Blake said cracking the door a little.
"What are you doing?" I asked as Blake pulled me into the bathroom and locked the door behind me.
"Blake. What are we doing in here? This is the men's bathroom and--" I said.
"Your dad is right, you talk way too much sometimes," he said grabbing my face and kissing me hard. He pushed my up against the the sink as I ran my fingers through his hair. he then picked me up and set me on the counter breaking this kiss allowing each of us to catch our breath. I could see his pants getting tight in a certain area as he slid the straps of my dress down and off my body. He then started kissing the sweet spot of my neck and worked his way down to my chest. I pulled his shirt that was tucked into his pants accidentally popping two of the bottom buttons off. I then went for his pants. Why did he always wear a damn belt? He got the memo and began to wiggle himself out of his pants and boxers freeing himself and I sat there for a moment wide eyed. Jesus Christ. Maybe because I was seeing him from a different angle but my god. He grabbed me by my waist and lifted me up onto him as I rolled my head back. A few moments later just as he was finishing someone knocked on the door.
"Shit," Blake mumbled as he set me back on the counter. I looked around finding my dress and my underwear that were in the sink. I couldn't help but laugh at Blake who was bent over picking up his boxers and pants.
"Shhh shh shhhh," Blake said in between giggles.
"I'm sorry," I mouthed as I heard another knock as Blake put his shirt over his head and buttoned what buttons were left.
"Go in that stall and stand on that toilet, and I'll tell you when to come out," Blake said pointing as I heard him unlock the door.
I could hear Blake talking to the guy who I was assuming was knocking on the door telling him that he was sorry that he was just cleaning up the bathroom.
"Soph, Sophie," I heard Blake whisper from the door.
"What?" I skated quietly.
"C'mon, let's go!" He said as I climbed down from the toilet seat and exited the stall. He held the door open and grabbed my hand as we both walked calmly to his car. As I opened my door and jumped in my seat I just started hysterically laughing.
"What?" Blake asked as he started the car.
"What do you mean 'what'?" I asked in between laughs.
"You're crying!"
"Because I'm laughing because we just did that in that bathroom and that guy was knocking on the door!"
"Oh yeah," he said as he began to laugh and exit the parking lot.
"Can we go get dessert?" I ask Blake.
"You worked up an appetite too?" He said smirking.
"I guess so," I said laughing.
