I parked my car in front of Dylan's and just sat there for a minute. I felt like all my thoughts were swarming me and I just couldn't catch a break.
It started to rain a little bit so I decided to go inside in case it started to downpour. The restaurant wasn't very crowded as I approached the front. I scanned the room to see if I knew anyone before heading back to the empty corner booth. Our corner booth. I sat down and pulled out my phone put my purse beside me to text Blake that I was meeting Claire and told him to text me when he lands.
A few moments later a young girl comes over to the table. She has a her hair pulled back in a messy bun and a small smile on her face.
"Good morning," she said pulling a pad of paper and pen out of her apron.
"Morning," I said smiling at her.
"Can I get you started with something to drink?" She asked.
"Yes, can I have a orange juice and a water?"
"Absolutely. I'll bring that right out for you," she said tucking her pad and pen back into her apron pocket. As she walked away, I saw Claire come in through the door and look around the restaurant. I waved my hand in the air as she skimmed the back of the restaurant and started to walk toward our table.
"Corner booth?" She asked as I stood up.
"Wouldn't have it any other way," I said as we both hugged.
"I'm sorry about my bitch of a mother," I said with my arms still wrapped around her.
"It's ok. We all have bitches in our lives. Sometimes we are the bitch," she said letting go as we both laughed together.Claire and I sat down and started talking about everything we've missed. Her success in her bakery, me finishing school, getting a good job, and finding someone who makes me more than happy, and of course my still very psychotic mother.
"So baby on the way?" Claire asked.
"Baby is on the way. Just a few weeks along but I have an appointment coming up here in a couple weeks to find out the sex."
"Ugh, Soph. You grew up on me."
"Me? What about you miss business owner?"
"Well, it's definitely no lawyer but I love the bakery. Its always got me going."
"I bet. I mean the line was crazy last night and Blake was very impressed with the cupcakes," I said taking a bite of my bagel.
"Speaking of the devil. How did ya'll even meet? I can't really see you going after an athlete but baby is cute," Claire said nodding her head in approval.
"At my nail salon," I said laughing.
"Your what?" Claire asked stunned.
"He was getting a pedicure. He told me as an athlete he had to keep his feet in check."
"You knew who he was?"
"No, I didn't know he was like big time basketball player until my mom and I saw him and some of his teammates at Nobu."
"Your mom knew who he was?"
"You know she's all about someone with a few extra dollars in the bank," I said as Claire began laughing. "And cause her and my dad have season tickets to Clipper games," I added.
"I see. Well I want to really meet him sometime. He seems like a great guy that makes you happy."
"You have no idea. It's almost indescribable."
"I want that," Claire said smiling.
"Just wait. It's bound to come. In fact, just when you aren't looking for it it'll just come out of nowhere."
"Yeah?"
"Mhmm, I mean I definitely wasn't looking for love or any kind of relationship. I was just looking for to get my nails done and eyebrows waxed."
"Typical Sophie. Always gotta keep it one hundred," Claire said shaking her head.
"Stop it!" I said swatting at her hand across the table.
"You know I missed this. I miss us," Claire said.
"I know, me too. I don't want whatever happened to happen again ok?"
"Ok," Claire said as we both just sat in silence for a moment. After talking for another hour or so our waitress came back with out check.
"Here, I'll just give you cash," Claire aid pulling out her wallet.
"No, no, you don't need to do that."
"Yes, here take it," Claire said holding out a ten dollar bill.
"I'm not taking it," I said putting giving my credit card to the waitress.
"Please? Come on."
"It's breakfast Claire. Listen I'll make a deal with you."
"What's that?"
"I'll buy breakfast, and you agree to make a cake for my baby shower," I said signing one copy of the receipts that were placed face down on our table.
"Oh of course! When is your shower?"
"I have no idea. I just thought it would be a good excuse to have a cake," I said as we both got up and walked toward the door.
"Everyday is a good enough excuse to have cake," Claire added.
"I couldn't agree more."
"Listen, I have to go by the bakery but let's get together with my brother and Blake soon?"
"Of course. After I get back y'all can come over and we'll have dinner and cupcakes," I said hugging Claire.
"I can't wait. Text me though. Send me pics from your trip. Maybe even of some of those basketball boys stretching," Claire said with a smirk on her face.
"You know, there are some pretty good looking ones. You'd be up for some chocolate?"
"Girl, I own a bakery. I'm always looking for more chocolate to come into my life."
"Claire Michelle!" I gasped.
"Is it that much of a surprise?" She asked.
"No, no it's not," I said as we both laughed.
"Let me give you another hug before I have to jet off," Claire said taking another step toward me.
"Let's not go that long without hearing from each other again ok?" Claire said.
"Deal."
"Alright, I love you. Keep me updated on everything and take care of Baby G!" she said as she walked toward her car.
"Love you too and you know I will," I said unlocking my car.
"I'll be waiting," she said as she turned around and continued to walk to her car.I took a different route back home. A longer one. Traffic wasn't terrible since it was nearly 11:30 in the morning. I decided to go to my house since Blake wasn't home and I wanted to pick up a few more things.
I went into the living room and saw that I had a text from Blake saying that he landed and was on the way to his hotel. That was nearly an hour ago so, I decided to give him a call.
"Hey sweets," he said.
"Hey, how was your flight?"
"It was fine. Slept a little, ate a little. You know the usual."
"Yeah, that's good," I said
"How did it go?" He asked.
"It was really good. Really, really good."
"I knew it would," Blake said as I sunk into the couch.
"How are you always so sure?"
"Someone has to be."
"You know you're just what I need sometimes."
"I have to say the same thing about you," he replied.
"Sounds like we make a pretty good team."
"Yeah, yeah we do. What are you up to now?"
"I went to my house. I might sleep here tonight. Order a pizza, go get a movie from Redbox, stop by the grocery store to get some ice cream to eat after my movie. Maybe some popcorn too. Then lay on the couch and then move to my bed."
"Sounds like you have an exciting night planned," Blake said. It was almost as if I could hear him smirking through the phone.
"And what are your plans?" I asked.
"Doc is making us watch a bunch of old games tonight after dinner. So there is my excitement."
"Hmmm, sounds...nice?" I said.
"Yeah, nice. Even though I'd much rather be at home. All snuggled up next to you. Maybe in one of my tshirts. Are you wearing one of those now?"
"Do all men like to fantasize about women wearing their clothes? Like I think when you come home I'll be wearing some of your basketball shorts and a sweater."
"I mean I'm sure most men do. There is just something so hot about a girl wearing your clothes. But you can just wear the tshirts. No need for sweaters unless you don't wear anything else with it," Blake said.
"No, I think I'll pass. You and DJ don't get into too much trouble ok?"
"No promises but, I'll try my best. How have you been feeling today?"
"I'm alright. Not really nauseous. I mean it is only noon so who knows. But I've managed to hold down my breakfast."
"Well that's good to know. Are you feeling tired or anything?"
"Umm...a little but I think that's because I didn't sleep great last night and I woke up really early this morning."
"That's true. Listen sweets I gotta go but call me and tell me goodnight later ok?"
"I will. I love you."
"Love you too. I'll talk to you soon ok?"
"Ok," I said hanging up and going upstairs into my room.It was just how I left it. Bed made, curtains pulled back, the pillows arranged on the love seat in the corner, my desk scattered with an assortment of papers. Everything was the same but, there was something that was so different.
