White Lies

It was Saturday which meant I had a lot of shit to do. I needed to go to the grocery store, pick up my dry cleaning, get my nails done, meet Blake for lunch, and I needed to pick out something to wear tonight. Tonight I was going out with some of the Lakers team and staff. Jordan texted me earlier asking me if I was still coming. He had been texting me a lot lately. He was a nice guy, who wasn't trying to get into my pants, very rare. I was just glad to have a friend who welcomed me to the team with open arms.

After running all my errands and meeting Blake for a late lunch I headed home to get ready for the night. I went with a casual navy shift dress with a cut out in the back, lavender dangly earrings, my gold watch, and light brown wedges. As I hopped in my car and began driving to Blue Ribbon my phone buzzed in the cup holder. It was a text from Jordan that said,
Just got here. The reservation is under my name. We have a table in the back.
Hmmmm, I guess Jordan plans everything for team or something. I replied with a simple okay and I turned into the shopping center where the restaurant was. I looked in the mirror to check my teeth and face for anything before adjusting my dress and getting out the car. I told the hostess that I was meeting some people here and that the reservation should be under Jordan Clarkson. She smiled sweetly and led me to a small table in the back where I could see Jordan. He was wearing khakis and a short sleeved denim shirt with tiny polka dots on it and the strangest part was, he was sitting alone. As I approached the table and said thank you to the hostess Jordan got up from his seat.
"Hey, you made it," he said giving me a friendly hug.
"Yeah, yeah. Um where is everybody?" I asked confused.
"Um, this is it. It's just us."
"It's just gonna be you and me? Where is everybody else?" I said as he pulled out my chair.
"It is just you and me. Everyone was so busy and I didn't want to call and cancel on you," he went on as I took my seat.
"You honestly could've called or texted me. I had other stuff to do..." I said to him.
"I'm sorry. Are you mad?" He asked shyly.
"No, I'm not mad," I said calmly even though I was thinking about the other thirty things I could be doing. We ordered our drinks and food and sat there talking. Jordan was a nice guy and very easy to talk to. A good friend.
"So when do you start?" He asked talking a bite of his sushi.
"The week of the 16th," I said nodding.
"Oh, so starting off on a roadtrip. You excited?" He asked.
"I am a little excited and nervous so yeah."
"You'll be fine. Trust me. It's fun going on the road. Get to see a little of whatever city were in, party a little sometimes, then play."
"Yeah, I guess a little partying never hurt," I said winking.
"See, there's that smile! Get excited Sophie!" He said enthusiastically.

After we were done eating and the waiter had cleared our plates the bill came. Jordan quickly slapped his credit card inside the folder and handed back to the waiter before I could even get my wallet out.
"You didn't have to do that," I said setting my purse in my lap.
"I know, but I wanted to. Don't worry about it," he said.
"Well thank you, I'll make sure to buy you coffee or something at the airport," I said to him.
"I don't drink coffee," he said sarcastically.
"And that's why I said or something!"
"Haha, a nice water will do," he said as the waiter brought back his card. Jordan signed the bill as both of us began to get up from the table.
"Where's your car?" He asked.
"It's this black one right here," I said pointing.
"Ah, a Range Rover. Nice choice," he said nodding.
"Thank you, credits to my dad," I said giggling.
"I see. Well I had a nice time tonight. Let's do it again," he said smiling.
"It was nice. Let's just coordinate better with the rest of the team next time," I said to him.
"Oh, yeah, right. I forgot about them," he said shaking his head. Jordan then leaned in closely as if he were to give me a friendly hug, but instead he grabbed my face softly and tried to kiss me.
"Jordan, what are you doing?" I asked taking a step back and pulling his hands away from my face.
"I was trying to kiss you," he said annoyed.
"Yeah, no. Stop. What did you think this was? A date?" I asked confused.
"A date, yeah. What did you think?"
"A team get together."
"C'mon Sophie. You're a smart girl. The only reason I said it was a team thing was to get you to come out with me. There was no team. Just you and me baby," he said putting his hands around my waist. I then quickly smacked them away.
"Get off of me! And no, I didn't know that. And don't call me baby. And for the record I have a boyfriend," I said walking to my car and driving off, not even thinking about looking back.

I felt like crying when I was driving home. In fact I did start crying. I can't believe he would trick me like that. What is Blake going to say? Should I even say anything to him about it? That would just make him upset. I was supposed to sleepover tonight but I couldn't go over there like this. I was a mess. My mascara was running and I breathing heavily. I heard my phone buzz in the cup holder and Blake's name flash across the screen. I pulled over to the side of the road and began drying my face with my hands and making sure my voice didn't give away the fact that I was crying.
"Hello?" I said softly into the phone as I looked at my puffy red face in the mirror.
"Soph, are you sleeping over--Sophie what's wrong?" He asked concerned. I guess I wasn't very good at hiding the fact that I was upset. Damn it.
"I'm fine. I'm just not feeling to well," I lie as I begin to fake a cough.
"Oh, I'm sorry baby. Do you want me to go get anything for you?" He asked.
"No, I think I'm just gonna go home for tonight. I'll probably come over tomorrow ok?"
"Are you sure? I can come over there," he offered.
"No, no. I don't want to get you sick. I'll be alright. It's just one night," I tell him.
"Ok, well I hope you feel better. Text me when you get home and I'll call you in the morning."
"Ok, thanks."
"I love you," he said softly.
"I love you too," I said back to him. And I meant it. I really did love him. I never thought anything else of Jordan besides a cute guy who was just being nice. That was it. There was nothing else. Nothing. And now I was sitting in my car feeling like complete shit because I felt like I was betraying Blake. I started up my car and began driving again. I thought about how the last place I wanted to be was at home in bed without Blake.

After I got home I texted Blake that I was home and goodnight. I just laid in my bed for the longest time thinking about the best way to tell him about this. But the only thing I could come up with was not to tell him at all.
