It had been a hell of a week. Blake and I had returned from Oklahoma, my mother was a bitch at dinner, DJ and Amber had come over for dinner last night, tonight Blake has a game, and Saturday I was going out with the Lakers and then next week Tommy and Gail were coming in. Shit, that reminded me that I needed to decide what to make when they come over for dinner Monday night. I quickly jotted some notes down in my planner before going to my closet and picking out what to wear. Blake left an hour or so ago to get ready for tonight. I adjusted the towel on top of my head before flipping through my clothes. I went with black distressed jeans, a gray tank top, my denim jacket, and nude flats that I set out on my bed. I went back into the bathroom to put on some makeup and brush my teeth. I noticed one of my little pink sticky notes on the bathroom mirror with familiar handwriting. As I got closer I saw that Blake had written:
Can't wait to see you tonight! Love you.
I smiled at the note as I moved it to the top of the mirror. Blake had stayed at my place the last two nights and has slowly made himself more at home. He bought a second toothbrush which he keeps on the opposite side of the sink along with a razor. He even brought Chaney a leash to keep by the front door. The three of us like to go on walks to the beach at night. It's kind of our tradition when they're over here. It was nice and made me feel like I had something going for myself.
After getting dressed I grabbed my black leather Tory Burch purse and threw in my wallet, sunglasses, car keys, and water bottle before heading out. I was meeting the girls at Bottle Rock for a few drinks before the game.
As I pulled into the parking lot I sent my dad a text to let me know when he was heading to the arena so I could meet him at will call. I was really excited that my dad was going. It's been a long time since it was just he and I without my mom stirring some kind of shit up.
I walked inside and took off my sunglasses, hanging them on my shirt to see that the place was packed. I then spotted Amber and Chelsea at a table in the back which I escorted myself to.
"There she is!" Jada shouted.
"Hey guys," I said making my way around to hug everyone. I saw that Jada had a glass of wine she was working on while all the other girls had some sort of cocktail.
"Excuse me? Can she get a drink?" Jada asked a waiter.
"Absolutely, what can I get you?" He asked smiling.
"Um can I have whatever she's having?" I asked pointing to the drink Chelsea had in her and as the waiter nodded.
"We haven't seen you in so long!" Gloria said.
"I know, I've just been so busy with everything," I said sitting down.
"Well tell us!" Chelsea said wide eyed.
"Well...I got a job. Don't hate me, it's with the Lakers."
"That's great Sophie! I mean would've been better if it was with the Clips but still that's awesome!" Jada said.
"Yes girl! Congratulations!" Chelsea said excitedly.
"Yay!" Amber said hugging me.
"Thank you guys, I really appreciate it," I said feeling the love. It had been quite awhile since I've had a group of friends like this. Like since high school. I sort of just tended to myself because it was easier but this was definitely more fun than being a loner.
"Let's make a toast. To Sophie. For working her ass off and getting a fabulous new job!" Jada said as we all raised our classes clinking them together.
"Ok, now ladies we need to tell Sophie about our pre game madness," Amber said taking a sip of her drink.
"Oh, yes! We cannot forget our little game," Gloria said smirking.
"What game?" I asked.
"Never have I ever." Chelsea said raising her eyebrows.
"I know what that is. I played that like in high school all the time and I would always win! Not that was anything to brag about but, I did always win," I said smiling.
"Well let's play then!" Jada said as we all held up our ten fingers.
"Ok, I'll start. Never have I ever gone skinny dipping,"Gloria said as both Amber and Jada put down one finger.
"Damn Gloria! It happened just last week!" Amber said as everyone laughed.
"Ok, umm. Never have I ever done anything dirty in the locker room," Chelsea said looking around.
"Define dirty..." Jada said.
"If you need me to define 'dirty' then you need to put a finger down," Chelsea said taking a sip of her drink as we all began to laugh at Jada.
"If you don't mind me asking, I hope you two were alone," Gloria said.
"Of course we were alone. With the the exception of Matt, Blake, Doc, and the shooting coach," Jada said as we all laughed hysterically.
