"What are you doing here?" I said closing my wallet and putting in on the table by the front door.
"I haven't talked to you in over a week. I needed to see how you were doing," he said.
"Well here I am," I said sharply.
"Are you here by yourself?" He asked.
"No, and so what if I was? I'm a grown woman."
"Well, you should tell someone the next time you're going to be here by yourself so someone can come check on you especially with the baby," he said.
"Listen, I'm no longer twelve. I think I can take of myself and my baby. Now, is there something that you needed or are you here just to bitch at me?"
"No, Sophie I'm not here to do any of that," he said sternly. I could her Marieka's footsteps behind me.
"Listen. Please. I hate that this is happening between you and your mother. All of it. It's ridiculous."
"That's what I've been saying for the last ten years of my life Dad."
"I know, I know. But it has to stop. Especially during this part of your life. You don't need any extra stress and neither does your mother and neither do I."
"Do you think that I'm stirring the pot? Because all of this falls back on her. All of it," I said as my dad crossed his arms.
"Yeah, you're right most of it is her fault but I am caught in the middle. I can't choose between my wife and my daughter."
"Dad, I'm not asking you to choose between us I'm just telling you that what she's been doing isn't right and she should choose to stop. She knows exactly what she's doing."
"Then talk to her Sophie. Please talk to her because she sure as hell won't talk to me."
"And what makes you think she's talking to me? Because she's not. Listen. Can we maybe do this later? I was having a stress free evening and I'd like to go back to my company."
"There are still things I want to talk to you about Soph."
"And we will. Just not now. Can I call you tomorrow?" I asked stepping out of the door frame, shutting the door behind me to walk him to his car.
"You'll call me tomorrow right?" He asked opening his car door.
"Before noon," I responded. "Maybe we can get lunch at Nora's."
"That sounds wonderful. Can I get a hug and a kiss before I leave?" He asked as I took a few steps toward him and wrapped my hands around his middle. I rested my head on his shoulder as he continued to hold me as we stood there in the driveway. I then lifted my head up to give him a kiss of his prickly cheek as he let go of me.
"I'll call you tomorrow," I said as he nodded and drove off.

I went back inside, locking the door behind me and joining Marieka back in the living room.
"Well, that was not our food as I expected," I said plopping down on the couch next to her.
"It's ok. I hope you don't mind me asking but what's going on with you and your parents?"
"Everything. My mom is just always too quick to come to any conclusions. She thinks Blake is gonna be a dead beat, she thinks that I will never learn how to be a good mother, she thinks that I don't surround myself with good people. It's kind of just everything. And my dad knows she's in the wrong but it's not like she's gonna listen to him when he tells her that. And she hates that's he's pretty much playing for both teams and now she's making me give up this house and it's just all a shit show pretty much," I said laughing.
"Yeah. Families can put on a good one too," Marieka said nodding her head.
"Ain't that the truth," I said as my phone began to ring. "Ugh, hold on," I sighed as I got up off the couch and went over to the kitchen counter where my phone was.
"Hello," I said answering.
"Hey baby," a familiar voice said.
"Hey, what are you up to?"
"Just hanging out with Marieka."
"Oh good she came over."
"Yes, she did. She's a good sister in law. I think you should definitely keep her around," I said jokingly.
"I just wanted to make sure you and Baby G were a okay. Don't blame me for being protective."
"I'm not Blake, I'm not. All fun and games here," I said.
"Mhmm. Did you eat yet?"
"No, not yet."
"Soph, it's nearly nine o'clock."
"We ordered some food and it should be here any minute ok? Now let me go and I'll call you before I go to bed."
"Ok. I'm not going to bed until you call," he said.
"Ok, I'll talk to you later."
"No 'I love you?'"He asked.
"That basically meant I love you and stop worrying so much--it's making me sick."
"I think you're confusing that with morning sickness," Blake added.
"No, I think I know what that is. That's starting to become very familiar," I said laughing a little.
"There's that laugh I miss. You're always laughing at something."
"Usually at you," I said as we continue to laugh.
"Very true. I guess I'll let you go but I expect to hear from you later tonight sweets," Blake said.
"As you wish. I'll talk to you in a bit," I said hanging up and returned to the living room where Marieka was still flipping through some photo albums.
"If I knew when you could catch a break I'd give you a heads up but, that doesn't seem like anytime soon," she said laughing.
"I'll tell you. Like my god. I think it's a man thing. Like they don't think you can do anything on your own."
"And you're pregnant," Marieka added.
"That too! Like I'm not sick. I'm not injured. All of you are just a pain in my ass," I said as Marieka continued to laugh.
"Girl, it's only gonna get worse. They are going to be at your doorstep and bedside every waking minute of the day."
"I don't know if I want that. At least all the time."
"I would just embrace while you can. But then they'll be hounding you to pinch that baby too."

After eating dinner and talking for another couple of hours it was nearly midnight and I had to go to work in the morning.
"If you need anything please don't hesitate to ask," I told Marieka as I showed her the guest bedroom that was the across the hall from mine.
"I won't. Now, I'm my gonna lie, I might try and find it first."
"That's fine too. And don't rush in the morning. I have to be out of here by nine or so but feel free to make yourself some breakfast and coffee, swim in the pool, whatever."
"Well, I might just do that then. I could use a base burn, unlike some of us," she teased.
"I mean my dad is black...so I got that year round tan," I said jokingly.
"Yes, we know and we envy you for it!"
"Oh please. Look at you hot momma!"
"Stop it! Now gimme a hug," she said coming toward me. "Thanks for letting me hang with you tonight. I had lots of fun and we must do it again. And when the baby gets here."
"Absolutely. Thank you for coming over and keeping me sane."
"This will definitely not be our last sister sleepover," Marieka said.
"Sisters?"
"Yes girl. You know he's bound to put a ring on it someday and it's not like you're going anywhere!"
