"It was a tiny spark of hope that kept me going."

"Sooo...",
Wilbur trailed off as Dream and him wandered through the empty sections of the store, packing food and other essential things.

After the emotional reunion of the lost siblings, Tommy had pulled Wilbur aside, telling him to go "shopping" with Dream.

He said that there was definetly something going on between them and that he should protect his "oh so fragile little sister" from any potential harm.

Being the big brother he was, Wilbur immediately felt the urge to scare the other male away.

He came up with the genius idea of telling Eleanor that she shouldn't go with them, since she's still weak and doesn't know how to fight, making her angry beyond imagination.

Wilbur gently touched the red hand print on his cheek, wincing when realizing that it still hurt.

She's become stronger...

"What did happen after El and I lost eachother?"

Dream stiffened at the question, remembering the state the girl was in the first time he saw her.

"I don't think you want to know.",
Dream's face scrunched up at the memory, a displeased tone in his reply.

"No tell me. I want to know. How did you meet?",
Wilbur asked bluntly, hoping that their journey the past few days had been smooth and easy.

Dream sighed before starting to tell Wilbur.

"I found her in the forest."

Dream paused, contemplaining of he should keep talking or not.

"She was running away from a bunch of zombies and tripped I guess. Coincidentally, I was out, hunting and saw her."

"And then?"

"Sh-She was crying and hurt. I can still remember the face she had after I killed the zombies."

Dream found himself stuttering for the first time after many years of getting stronger and learning to be composed and cool.

"She looked like she was actually ready to die, and yet didn't want to.
She fell unconcious the moment I saved her. I carried her to the little house my friends and me own, treated her wound and let her rest."

"She was knocked out for at least three days before waking up to strangers. She was obviously scared."

"The past few days had been a hell-ride. We had to keep moving and running away. Some of us got injuried badly while the others didn't even get minutes of sleep."

Both male's hearts hurt at the thought.

"There had been many near to death situations, way to many."

Dream clutched the can of beans in his hand tightly, thinking about George, who secretly kept staying awake every night to stay guard, thinking that no one noticed.

But Dream did notice.

He thought about Nick, who risked his life to keep the other's safe. Nick, who kept taking the hits and killed the most zombies so that the other's had less work and then cried himself to sleep when someone got a slight scratch or bruise, thinking that no one noticed.

But Dream did notice.

And then, there was Eleanor.
The girl, that did her best to not slow down the group and treated everyone, keeping her own needs away. Who tried to not show how frightened she actually was.

But Dream did notice.

And for each one of them, his heart ached.

In the last few days, Dream felt like he completely ignored his role and duties as a leader. Everyone took their part in bringing the group to the city safely, and during that time, he was the one who slowed the group down.

Realization made him tremble in fear.

I'm a terrible leader.

I don't deserve these people.

These were the thoughts that ran through his head.

I did nothi-

"What's your deal with my sister?"

Wilbur's voice made Dream's thoughts halt and mind stop working abruptly.

Me...Eleanor...what?

"I'm sorry, what?"

"You heard me, what's your deal with my sister? Do you like her or?"

Beneath the mask, Dream found himself burning up in hues of crimson.

An awkward silence surrounded the boys as the looked at each other, Dream's eyes as wide as possible and Wilbur's set onto the other with judging ones.

Slowly, Wilbur raised one eyebrow before walking to the shorter male, caging him in a corner before asking again.

"My sister can be very naive, so I hope that you haven't tried anything on her yet."

Dream doubled over before he started to cough his lungs out.

"Did you k-"

"Stop!"

Dream interupted Wilbur loudly before puffing his chest out.

"No, we didn't do anything. I don't like her like that."

Liar

A little voice nagged at him the moment he said the words, but he chose to ignore it as he concentrated on the person infront of him.

"Stay away from her."

Wilbur warned him one last time before walking away sassily.

. . .

"I'll actually murder you if you break her heart or anything like
that."

The same sentence repeated itself in Dream's head again and again as he and Wilbur walked back.

More like sneaked past the many zombies that wandered around the streets aimlessly.

In the past ten minutes they had spent walking, Dream realized quite a few things.

One, Eleanor's big brother is scary; he seemed like the kind of guy who could blow up a whole nation if he wanted to.

Two, he's hungry.

Three, he thinks of Eleanor more as just a friend or someone he met aprox one week ago.

Something kept telling him that he has stronger feelings for her, but at the same time, he didn't want to admit it.

His head felt like it might explode any minute.

He can't like someone like that again.

Not after what happened the last time he did.

What if history repeats itself?

What if-

"Dream.",
Wilbur's anxious voice made Dream look look at the other, more like at what he was pointing at.
