"I'm standing in the ashes of who I used to be."

It was a splitting headache that made Eleanor wake up from her deep slumber.

Her first instinct was to groan as she could feel her head pound in protest. Her movements were sloppy as she slowly sat up.

A warm body on top of her hand made her glance down only to be met by the sight of her brother fast asleep on a chair at the side of her bed as he still held her hand.

The sound of someone clearing their throat made her look forward to meet eyes with Dream's mask. Of course, she couldn't decipher his facial expressions right now, but something was telling her that he was raising his eyebrow while waiting for an explanation as he sat in front of her with his legs and arms crossed.

Her eyes briefly wandered to his sides to catch a bunch of sleeping forts and occupied beds that the others were sleeping on.

Letting out a tired sigh, she looked back at Dream again.

"What time is it?"

Her voice was still raw and raspy from screaming, making her sound like some kind of demon.

"I don't think that's important at the moment."

His voice was harsh and she winced as she felt like a child who was getting scolded by a strict parent.

"Not here, let me explain everything to you somewhere else."

She could only watch him as he stood up before her walked to her side, helping her rather frail and weak body from the bed while trying to not wake up Wilbur.

Her knees buckled beneath her the moment she touched ground again, making her yelp in the little span of second she was in a free fall before Dream skillfully caught her in his arms. He gently put her onto her bed again before he crouched down, urging her to climb onto his back.

She was glad that he couldn't see her face the moment she became aware of the close proximity.

Nevertheless, she was secretly enjoying this moment before the boldly laid her head againt his back as he carried her through different doors before he finally opened the last door, entering the balcony Eleanor had already discovered the previous noon.

The sight infront of her made her breath hitch.

The moon illuminated the city infront of them, giving everything a certain type of glow. Something about the sight of the lonely moon made her sad, yet calmed her as she stared at the celestial body with awe.

She felt safe and protected as Dream sat her onto the bench, handling her like a delicate flower.
His presence covered the foul stench of the zombies that were actually wandering around at this time as his musty scent invaded her nose, making her feel warm inside as he moved down next to her.

Almost immediately, she leaned her head against his shoulder before letting out a little sigh, enjoying the scenery and beauty of the world as it rested in a deep slumber.

"Eleanor."

His voice was gentle and music to her ears as she closed her eyes to concentrate on the effect it had on her.

"Please tell me. Tell me everything that's going on inside your head right now."

His voice was desperate and she could feel the way he stiffened the moment she let out a sigh with tears glossing over her eyes.

"Frankly, I'm not sure myself."

"Just start from the beginning, and don't let out any details."

And she didn't.
Eleanor poured her heart into her words as she told him everything she had learned about herself in the past three days.
Exept for one thing.

Her deal with Alfred.

Something in her mind was telling her that Dream would stop her from visiting Alfred the moment her found out the smallest detail of what was about to happen to her.

It told her that he cared enough about her.

But so did she.

Yes, she did think about being selfish, but after giving it a second thought, she just wanted to protect her family at any cost.
Even if it was her who had to pay the ultimate price.

A moment of silence hung in the air by the time she had stopped, with a few tears rolling down her soft cheeks yet again.

Slowly, a hand hovered above her face before Dream delicately wiped her tears away, making her blush again before she sniffled.

Dream's heart clenched at the sight of her looking broken and lost.

It made him want to protect her from all harm.

So he made it his own mission to do exactly that; keep her safe and taking some of the burdens she was carrying on her shoulders right now.

If only he knew...

"Don't worry."

"Everything's going to be okay."

"We're going to get through this together."

And then?

A heavy and chilling silence that made her fear that everything was going to fall apart once again.

If only she knew...

A warm hug made her melt into his body as she returned the gesture, feeling thankful for his presence, making her want for this moment to last forever.

If only they knew what life had planned out for them.
