Chapter 8 - Thanks I guess....

*Technoblade's POV*

As Cordelia closed the library door I thought about going after her. I know that at night there are a lot of thugs and crime. She can hold her own, she'll be fine. I thought before turning back to my book.

"Ugh, I better not regret this," I huffed, shutting my book and grabbing my cloak. I walked with haste out the door and through the corridors of the sleeping castle. When I made my way to the castle gate I was stopped.

"Your highness? What are you doing? You can't leave at this time at night, you might get hurt," a guard stopped me.

"Let me though, I can defend myself," I said, pushing past. The gate opened and I walked out into the night to find Cordelia. As I made my way down the quiet street I kept my guard up.

"This was a total waste of ti-" I stopped talking when I heard something in the distance.

"Get off me!" I heard a voice yell, I ran to the voice and when I rounded the corner I saw Cordelia being held by a man with a mask on. He was holding her hands behind her back and she was struggling to get away from him.

Acting quickly I ran up to the man and punched him in the face. He let go of Cordelia and I hit him one more time, knocking him out. I looked over to Cordelia to see if she was okay. Cordelia looked at me and then at the man who was now laying on the ground. There was shock in her eyes but she quickly got rid of it.

"You should be glad I was here," I said looking away from her and to the man lying on the ground.

"Thanks I guess.... Wait, why were you following me?" She asked and I turned to look at her.

"It's not safe at night," was all I said. I didn't want to admit that I was worried.

"You were worried about me weren't you? Ha! Who knew the brute could be soft!" She said, chuckling a little. I rushed up to her and grabbed her shoulders, stopping her laughter.

"Don't. Call. Me. Soft." I said, staring at her menacingly. I let go of her when I saw a slight glint in fear in her eyes. "Come on. I'll walk you home," I said, grunting a little.

We didn't talk at all on the way to her house. There was an unpleasant feeling in the air. I could tell Cordelia was uncomfortable but I didn't know what to do so I just stayed quiet.

When we got to Cordelia's house I walked up to the door with her to make sure she got in. Once she opened the door and turned around and looked at me. "Thank you, for saving me back there and for walking me home. I really appreciate it. Maybe you are not an emotionless brute after all," Cordelia said, smiling at me.

"You're welcome. Next time maybe leave the library before it gets dark," I said to her and she nodded before giving a small wave and going inside. I returned the wave but not the smile. I wasn't much for smiling.

When I got home I went to bed and lay there for a second replaying what just happened in my head.

A/N: Techno to the rescue! I don't care that Cordelia is a great fighter, I wanted this to happen.
