Chapter 17 - Night in the forest

*Third person POV*

Techno had set up fire and Cordelia was asleep. Cordelia had to use Techno's sleeping gear since when that man stole her horse, her sleeping gear was attached to it.

Techno was sitting on a log, looking into the fire. His fingers were locked together and he had his chin resting on his knuckles.

Occasionally, he would look over at Cordelia, but then he would catch himself staring and quickly look away. Letting out a large sigh, Techno got up and walked over to Carl (his horse).

"Carl, Carl, Carl... what to do, what to do," Techno spoke to Carl. He didn't know why, but talking to Carl was comforting to him, even though Carl couldn't understand him.

Cordelia started to stir and when she woke, she saw Techno next to Carl. "Techno?" She said, sitting up slightly.

"You're awake," Techno said, turning around. He walked over to her and knelt down, "how's your wound doing?"

"Aside from being stabbed, I'm doing great!" She beamed, but then winced at the sudden movement she made.

"It's dark, you should go to sleep," Cordelia said looking up at the night sky.

"Yeah. I will soon. Do you need anything? I think we have some pain killers?" Techno asked, looking through the first aid kit.

"Aww, who knew all it took for Techno to be nice to me, was me getting stabbed!" Cordelia said, stifling a laugh.

"Would you prefer that I didn't help you while you were in pain?" Techno said, keeping his patients.

"I'm only joking. Thank you, really. And yes, I'll take some painkillers. Who would've thought that getting stabbed would hurt so much?" Cordelia said the last bit sarcastically. 

"I don't know how I put up with you," Techno sighed, handing her a pot of pills.

"Ohhh, you know you love me!" She replied, before opening the pot. She read the back to see how much she should take. "Warning, when taking these pills, have someone with you because you will feel loopy'. Oh well that's just great," Cordelia read from the back.

She downed 2 pills dry and lay down. "K, I'll start to feel the meds in about 10 minuets. I'm going to sleep. You should too," Cordelia said, shutting her eyes.

"Yeah, I will," Techno said quietly. Cordelia's breathing slowed and Techno suspected she fell asleep. He didn't want to sleep, he was worried that something might happen if he went to sleep. Also, Cordelia had his sleeping gear since her's was stolen.

<Timeskip> 1 hour

Techno was now struggling to keep his eyes open, but he couldn't sleep, he wouldn't sleep. He heard shuffling and quickly grabbed his sword. Then he realized that the shuffling came from Cordelia.

"Hey Techno?" Cordelia's voice broke the night silence.

"Yeah?" Techno replied, putting his sword away and walking over to her. She rolled over and had a tired smile on her face.

"You said you'd sleep. Go to sleep, you're tired," She said, in a rather dopy voice.

"No, I can't, I have to be on watch-"

"Shhh, it's okay. No need to be paranoid, we will be fine. Like you said, this is a magical forest full of kind creatures. Just come sleep," Cordelia said, pulling Techno down into a lying position. She wrapped her arm around him and rested her head on his chest gently.

"You want me to sleep here?" Techno asked.

"This is your sleeping gear after all, and we're outside in a forest. We need warmth," She said snuggling up to him. Techno remembered that she was on painkillers so she was a little loopy. He gently wrapped his arm around her, careful not to touch her stab wound and then the two feel asleep.

<Timeskip>

Techno woke up first the next morning. He looked down to see Cordelia peacefully asleep on his chest. Looking up at the sky, Techno guessed it was around 8 in the morning.

Techno was too scared to move in case he woke Cordelia up or accidentally hurt her by moving her, so he stayed put. Soon he felt Cordelia start to move.

"Aaaaa, what time is it," she said, her voice crocky from just waking up. When Cordelia started to wake more she realized that she was cuddled up to techno and her face went red.

"I don't know, but I think it's around 8," Techno replied. Cordelia then carefully pushed herself off Techno and looked away with a red face.

"Okay, we should get going. Is everything ready?" Cordelai asked, sitting up, wincing slightly.

"Yeah, one problem though. You don't have a horse.... So I thought I'll walk and you ride Carl," Techno said, getting up and stretching.

"But then we will take so much longer to get the Water kingdom! We're already not doing fabulous for time," Cordelia said.

"I'm sure the King and Queen will understand why we took a while. And it's fine, I'll walk," Techno said, walking over to Carl and untying him.

Cordelia huffed, trying to stand but she just ended up falling. Techno quickly caught her and stabilized her. "Are you sure you can walk?" Techno asked.

"Yeah, I got this," She said, letting go of him and taking one step forward before she grabbed her stomach in pain and started to fall. Once again, techno caught her and he picked her up in a bridal style.

Techno walked over to Carl and gently placed Cordelia on him so she was sitting side saddle. He quickly packed up the sleeping gear and attached it to Carl. "Okay, we're ready to go," Techno said, and he started to pull Cal along with Cordelia on him.

"Techno, stop," Cordelia said and Techno stopped. He looked at her and she held her hand on her stomach. "I'm sorry. This just hurts too much. Just leave me, deliver the crown by yourself," She said.

"What? No, I am not leaving you," Techno said, sturnly.

"It's pointless. I am weighing you down. I'm too weak to even stay stable on Carl. I'm going to fall off him any second," Cordelia said, chuckling sadly.

"No. here, let me just-" Techno heaved himself onto Carl and sat behind Cordelia. She was still sitting side saddle, so Techno put his arm gently around the back to stabilize her.

Techno carefully pulled Cordelia closer to him so she wouldn't fall off and she lent into his chest. He then started to ride again, "Is this okay?" He asked, quietly.

"Yeah," Cordelia replied, giving a small smile even though Techno couldn't see.
