NINA
Today we had a big staff meeting and to be honest, they always feel like they are a waste of time. Truthfully, we all think that maybe our boss likes to hear himself talk a lot and he enjoys spending the entire time talking about the mistakes we made and how much better we need to be.
Now, given, there are staff members at many jobs where those speeches would make sense and be understandably needed, but not for us. In fact, we all have come to believe that we are a big reason as to why they return. We are always friendly with everyone (even the assholes who think they're better than everyone else) and practically go above and beyond. Most of their positive reviews are about how clean their rooms always are and the outstanding customer service they receive while staying here. We are one of the best for a reason. We are all a team.
The other day we were told that the CEO's nephew who was supposed to be taking over the business eventually, was going to be staying upstairs on the top floor starting today and would be observing everybody to not only gain experience and see how this entire hotel operates, but also might even be evaluating everyone as well.
Not to sound conceited but I know that I do a great job. However, it is a little nerve-wrecking to hear we will be observed and from what all I have heard about him, he is a hard ass and is extremely hard to please - just like his Uncle. Also, that he sounds like the typical cliche type of bachelor who has never really worked a day in his life and now is being handed a company so that he could grow up, yet,  has no experience or knowledge of the real world.
Then again, it could all just be the media and everybody else blowing things out of proportion - who knows.
Last night I had stayed up late, binge-watching some shows and forgot to set my alarm for this morning. So I was of course rushing around the loft like a chicken with their head cut off, trying to hurry and get dressed before heading downstairs to grab a taxi.
I didn't want to be late and even though this would be the first time I would be, I personal would not be too happy about it on account of something I had forgotten to do the night before to help prevent this from happening. But today especially, would be horrible seeing as to how today's meeting was going to be including us all being introduced to Lelan.
I was a little nervous but more than anything, frazzled overall because I am in such a hurry and can't think straight while in that mode. Thankfully I got a taxi rather quickly and finished brushing my hair back in a bun then putting on some mascara and made sure I am okay while the cab driver continued to drive.
Soon enough we arrived in front of the long steep driveway where we had deliveries come and unload at and I hurried out the cab then rushed down towards the door in back of the hotel where us employees always entered at.
I had several minutes to spare and was a bit worried because I still needed to toss my things in my locker and join everybody on the next floor up.
After tossing everything into the locker then hurrying towards the elevator, I was glad my luck was still going as I noticed somebody just stepped into the elevator getting ready to close the doors.
"Wait! Please hold the elevator!" I shouted.
The guy just looked at me with a smirk as the doors started to close.
"Sorry, too late." Was all this asshole said.
I had no time to dwell on that and now had looked at my watch to see that I was a couple minutes late already.
There was no other alternative than for me to run up a couple sets of stairs to get there, hopefully unnoticed.  Then finally, when I made it to where I saw Lance and Mercedes already standing behind everybody overhearing the Manager speak, I sneakingly stood in between them.
"Where the hell have you been?!" Lance whispers yells.
"I forgot to set my alarm and then this asshole didn't hold the elevator for me so I had to run up here." I tell them between trying to catch my breath.
"One of us would have covered for you." Mercedes tells me.
"Thanks, but no. Besides, we know our dickhead of a boss would have found out." I replied.
"Now, before I let you all go to start your shifts, I want to introduce you to Mr. Lelan Warrington." Our Manager, Mr. Slautton announced.
When I saw Mr. Warrington stand in Mr. Slautton's spot, my jaw dropped and I stood there not able to move as I right away recognized it was the asshole from the elevator.
"Thank you." He tells Mr. Slautton before looking back at us and continued. "I want you all to know that while I am here and observing, don't do anything different than how you normally do your duties. I need to see how good you all are and evaluate you all in the end to determine who has what it takes to remain as part of this hotel and who doesn't. I look forward to getting to know you all. Good luck." He finishes.
Okay, what movie did he get that speech out from? And yeah, try and ignore his title and to continue doing what we normally do, then come at us with a threat as if some of us will be still working here in the end and some of us won't be here.
Seriously?!? Who the hell does he think he is saying that?!?
"Pff." I scoffed.
I thought I had scoffed to myself and quietly but apparently, that wasn't true seeing as to how everybody was looking at me now, including Mr. Hottie with a body - I mean, Mr. Warrington.
When he looked at me, I thought that I had to be dead seeing as to how he was glaring with a mischievous smirk, making me agitated a bit.
"What was that?" He asked.
"Sorry, I had hair in my face and was blowing it off." I hesitated to say while trying to sound convincing as if that were the truth when it obviously wasn't. Hell, I didn't even believe myself.
Next chapter will be posted soon! :)
