I dial Matt's number and he answers after two rings.
"Hello?"
"We need to talk."
"Lucy it's late, can we talk tomorrow?"
"No. This is important" I say sternly.
"Fine, let me go upstairs." I hear him walk up the stairs and open and close a door. "Ok what's going on?"
"What did you tell them?"
"What are talking about Lucy?"
"You know exactly what I'm talking about Matthew." He knows I'm mad when I call him that.
"Lucy, it's nothing bad about you. I'm sorry but this is not the right time to talk about it."
"Well we are."
"No we aren't."
"Matthew. Tell me. Now."
"Fine. This isn't really how I wanted to you though. I'm not sure how to say this because this is important. Just promise we can still be friends?"
"Please don't tell me you told them about what happened"
"Lucy, I would never. What happened that night will never be told to anyone, I promised you that." I start to cry just thinking about that night.
"Please don't cry Lucy, I don't want you to cry. It's in the past and we will never discuss it with anyone."
"I haven't thought about it since the night after you left. I still can't believe it happened"
"No one will never know. I promise."
"Thank you" I respond quietly through my tears. There's a long pause.
"Can you please tell me now?"
"Yes. I should have to you sooner but I was too scared. Ok here I go. Luce, ever sin-"
It's silent. I look at my phone and it's dead. "Fuck." I plug it in and set it on my nightstand and wait for it turn back on. I don't know why I thought Matt would tell them about what happened. I just don't know what else it could be.
