The two—Ranboo and Dream—had headed back to Dream's cell, after finishing eating in the canteen.

And now he sat there, trying to think of a way to have some sort of form of communication between them.

How am I ever supposed to hold a conversation with Ranboo, if I can't understand what Ranboo is saying?

There needed to be a common ground, yet currently there was none.

"Okay, what if I learned how to speak and understand your language, somehow?" Dream suggested.

"How do you suggest we hold more than a one-sided conversation then?" Dream was getting frustrated.

"⍙⟒ ☊⍜⎍⌰⎅ ⟊⎍⌇⏁ ☊⍜⋔⟒ ⎍⌿ ⍙⟟⏁⊑ ⏃⋏ ⟒⋏⏁⟟⍀⟒⌰⊬ ⋏⟒⍙ ⎎⍜⍀⋔ ⍜⎎ ⌰⏃⋏☌⎍⏃☌⟒? ⌿⟟☊⏁⎍⍀⟒-⏚⏃⌇⟒⎅ ⋔⏃⊬⏚⟒??" Ranboo suggested.

Dream ignored whatever Ranboo's suggestion was, since he couldn't understand him.

"Can't you just learn to speak or write English? Since you can understand it? What's stopping you?" Dream asked.

"⟟ ⎅⍜⋏'⏁ ☍⋏⍜⍙ ⍙⊑⏃⏁ ⟒⌖⏃☊⏁⌰⊬ ⌇⏁⍜⌿⌇ ⋔⟒. ⟟⏁ ⌿⊑⊬⌇⟟☊⏃⌰⌰⊬ ⊑⎍⍀⏁⌇ ⏁⍜ ⟒⎐⟒⋏ ⏁⍀⊬ ⏁⍜ ⌇⌿⟒⏃☍ ⟟⏁, ⌰⟒⏁ ⏃⌰⍜⋏⟒ ⍙⍀⟟⏁⟒ ⟟⏁" Ranboo explained.

Dream turned away, trying to think of a possible solution.

And then, the idea came to him, rather slowly actually.

"We could use sign- sign language!" Dream had a moment of clarity.

Ranboo looked at him in confusion.

"Sign language. It's a form of communication, done by physical gestures and signs" Dream explained.

Ranboo looked a little less confused.

Dream started to teach Ranboo the basics—rather than the alphabet, since that would take much more time to memorize and become fluent in, he tried to teach Ranboo the absolute essentials, so how to say his own name, and how to say hi and bye.

It was a rocky start, and honestly he knew Ranboo wouldn't get anywhere near fluent in sign language for awhile, but maybe if he tried hard enough, he could teach Ranboo how to say 'hi' by the end of the day.

For some reason, the sign language knowledge just came to Dream as he went along trying to teach Ranboo.

As if Dream had been fluent in sign language before.

Which was impossible, since he hadn't even remembered that sign language existed until a few minutes ago.

Right?
