Chapter 8: Drums of War

"So this is the strength of the Azur Lane?! PATHETIC! ハナ！ミ！え、ええと...ええい！"

My hanafuda cards fly and strike into the hulls of some of our enemies, as they worthlessly scramble to regain their positions. But, somehow, they're still standing. One shouts... something (I never learned English), when one of them... I think Suzumebachi (I think Wasp in English?) shouts in broken Japanese.

Wasp(actually Hornet): "Japanese Navy! You already lose!"

"Yeah, right! Failure is not possible!"

I'm pretty sure Souryuu shouts the same thing, but in English.

Suzumebachi, laughing and pointing behind us: "Then what that?!"

Souryuu and I look behind to see Akagi and Kaga. Nothing special there.

"What...?!"

Kaga suddenly stumbles backwards, holding a hand to her neck, before collapsing. I see blood.

I look to the island, and a glint says it all.

"Souryuu! Sniper, 10 o'clock! On the island!" We send out planes, but most were shot down. I think about 7 survived the trip.

Hornet: "Did ya forget us?!"

Sliding down the hill, ammo clanging together, I take solace in the fact that I actually hit my target. I'm not good with sniper rifles, so that was my first precise shot (when it finally counted!). On the main road, I board my motorcycle and blare down to the base, noticing the planes.

'If this works, I'm a god.' Skidding to a stop, the M1 catches into my hands as I aim down its anti-air sights.

Bang. Bang, bang. Bang, bang, bang, bang. Bang ping!

5 shots landed, taking down some of the planes. With the other 3 grazing the planes just enough for them to fly out of formation to avoid further damage. 'Now's my chance!' I, once more, blare down the road, this time out of sight of the planes and into a tunnel.

'I guess I am a god. Heh.'

Out the other end, I can see the base is on fire from a distance, but it's not much smoke.

"Status report!"

Sheffield: "Casualties are being taken care of. 7 kansen injuries, 14 civilian injuries, 0 kansen deaths, but some planes struck some fire department engines while they were helping in damage control. Death toll unknown."

"I'll talk to President Roosevelt to hand out Civilian Medals to those courageous souls!"

Belfast: "We've retaken the skies!"

"So quickly?"

Hornet: "Sis! You're back! ...Huh? Yorktown?"

'Thank you, Hornet, for the answer.'

"Hornet, take your sisters and take out the Siren ships. Push them back to their mainland!" I turn back around and head back to the frontlines; I need to see them face-to-face.

After a few, I reach the beach. Just in time to see Enterprise slide back from a blow to stand next to me.

"Pull back all units. We've pushed them back far enough. Any further would put more civilians at risk."

Enterprise: "Understood."

She called all girls to head back as I scream across the ocean.

"You Japanese bastards can't win!"
