Pearl Harbor Naval Base
June 19, 1942
My eyes slowly flutter open, the calming winds of the world outside entering my open window. Shaking my head awake, I look around my room to see nothing out of place.
Hopping off my bed, I take a quick walk to the bathroom, taking a quick look at my face. I haven't been able to shave for a while, so some stubble started to grow down my cheeks and under my chin. A thin moustache can be seen atop my upper lip. Time to shave.
Placing the razor down, I wash my face, ridding myself of any residue left behind. Once I find I like how I look, I go to take a shower to prepare myself for the day.
Cold water flows down my chest as I refresh myself. Cleaning myself, I think to what I must do today.
I need to ask Akashi where that extra money went, as I noticed some cash missing.
Some support requests came in from the front lines. I need to organize some form of aid group to assist.
The Mermaids have been asking for additional funds. Need to ask why and how much.
The island-hopping campaign is about to begin, and I need to see who needs what and when.
Turning the showerhead off, I dry myself off before grabbing my uniform and head out to my office, not before checking the...
What the fuck do you mean it's 11 A.M.?!
Rushing out of my room, I quickly run over to my office. Stopping in front of the room to catch my breath, I adjust the cap on my head and reach for my keys...
Where are my keys?
Bel: "Jason?"
Oh, thank God. I turn to the maid.
"Hey, Bel. Wait, why didn't you wake me up today?"
Bel, hiding her mouth behind her hand: "I didn't want to disturb you on your special day, so I let you sleep."
"My special day? No, more importantly, do you know where my keys are? I think someone took them."
Bel: "Do you mean... these?" Removing the hand from in front of her face, she spins my keyring on her index finger, the master key to many rooms on base spinning along with.
"Wait, why do you—"
Bel: "You forgot your own birthday, didn't you?"
...
I forgor.
I nod sheepishly.
Bel, with an exasperated face (with some smug): "Oh, Jason. What am I to do with you?"
"Well, what do you expect, since so much has been happening these past few weeks?!"
Bel: "Yes, I understand. Anyways, you'll be taking the day off. Admiral Nimitz will be taking over. After all, this will be his office soon enough."
"Right. Okay, so, what'm I supposed to do, now?"
Bel, giggling: "You're going to eat, obviously. Follow me me."
Bel walks past the office and, begrudgingly, I follow.
--
We reach the oft-forgotten strategy room, its lights off. I have an idea as to what's gonna pop out, but I'll just pretend that I do not know. Head empty, and all that.
Bel: "Through here."
Giving Bel a coy smile, I enter the room. Bel flicks the lights on, party poppers... pop, and everyone jumps out.
