The Special Yule Ball

I had spent some time thinking about how to make the Yule Ball special for him. After all, it was now also the celebration of Mattheo waking up. I told Draco, Blaise, and Pansy about the plan and they were happy to come to join us. Draco had informed Astoria, and she said she would bring a couple of her friends over too. Maybe she isn't that much of a bitch.

It was DADA with the Gryffindors now, the lessons were becoming more bearable. I sat down in the front row, right in front of the "Golden Trio" as everyone at school called Ron, Hermione, and Harry. Professor Moody had just walked in, his electric blue eye swerving in its socket scanning every student in the room. The class had gone quiet at the sight of his mangled face. 'Well, hello class.' he said gruffly. 'You have a quiz coming up soon, so I will dedicate this lesson purely towards revision. If you have any questions, don't come to me. You may begin. Chatter is allowed, I really don't care.' The class once more, reluctantly, broke into a flurry of chatter. I didn't exactly know what to do, so I just doodled with my quill on a spare piece of parchment; etching a small portrait of my Auntie Andromeda. She was my favorite aunt; the rest of my family hates her guts and has basically cut off all ties with her. But I love her so much, she's the sweetest lady and sends me Muggle gifts in secret all the time. The most recent being a biro pen and records of the Beatles. It had once belonged to Sirius she had said. I can't wait to meet her again, but mother would be so upset if I did.

The Blacks and Tonks were probably the only part of my family I liked. The last I had met Sirius was a while back and his sense of humour and jolly personality made me so happy. Auntie Andromeda was so sweet, and Tonks' was probably the best person I've ever met in my entire life, she was practically my role model. If Mother found out I would be slaughtered.

'Professor McGonagall, and Flitwick, along with Madame Maxime and Igor had called all of us to the Hall and cast some Charms on us. It was odd, they refused to tell us what was wrong.' Harry's whispered just loud enough for me to hear. Hermione responded in a worried tone, 'Yeah that is...odd.' That means Harry, and the rest were safe from a force that they had no clue about. My hands had stopped working as if the machine inside my brain had malfunctioned. My quill was hovering just above Aunt Andromeda's left eye.

An excruciating pain took over my body, harnessing control. It was like a snake was slithering through my guts, hissing, begging, demanding control. My arms and legs felt they were being ripped off and my heart was being ripped apart. Before I knew what I was doing I had turned around and asked the trio, 'What was the Charm they used?'

'Were you listening to our conversation Malfoy?' Hermione asked, with a tone of apprehension.

'Yes, I was. Tell me what Charm they used.'

'How does it matter to you?' Ron said angrily.

'It matters. Just tell me please.'

'No. Even if your life was on the line I wouldn't tell you.' Harry scoffed.

I scoffed and turned back around, I don't know what I was expecting. I don't even know why I turned around, it was like some unusual force had taken over.  The pain had disappeared as quickly as it had come. I sat there trying to process what I had just felt inside me. It was a deep, ominous, and heart-wrenching feeling; Something that felt like it was ripping my body into pieces. In the distance I heard Professor Moody grunting with displeasure; as I looked up he looked away sheepishly, looking down at his hands.

The afternoon had rolled around and I had practically begged Madam Pomfrey to move Mattheo out of the hospital for at least half an hour. I asked the rest of my group to come over and help decorate the place a bit. Using my slender wand I magicked up beautiful and colorful flowers lining every inch of the ceiling and strings of warm fairy lights gracefully falling from between. The fairies eventually flew off the string and flew merrily about the huge room. It was a beautiful sight. Blaise had bought in some snacks and placed them messily across the draped table Pansy had magicked up. The hospital beds were now covered in colorful bedsheets. A bit later Dobby and his other friends had bought a grand-looking cake (imagine your dream cake.) it was gorgeous. Then Astoria and her little group had walked in dressed in pretty shades of green and blue, surprisingly Luna, and Ginny had walked in hand-in-hand too.

Then finally Mattheo had walked in from the back corner of the room dressed in a formal tuxedo and wearing a gentle smile. 'This looks awesome, thank you so much.' he said gratefully. He ran up to me with a slight limp in his step and gave me huge hug lifting me slightly of the ground. 'You look less ugly today.' he sniggered.

'You still look hideous.' I smiled.

Luna had walked up to us and said, 'Are you two a thing now?' she asked in her usual straightforward manner.

'Oh no, we're just friends.' I said quickly, Mattheo nodded swiftly.

Luna raised her eyebrows skeptically and gave a smile, before serenely walking away towards Ginny who was chugging cordial as a dare from Blaise. The rest of the Special Ball was spent talking and laughing with the small group that had joined us to celebrate. The fairies flew amongst us, whispering things into Luna's ear as she translated for us; 'Ruby said that she thinks Blaise is rather good looking.' she giggled. Blaise was a bit flustered, which was rather stupid. Draco seemed irritated since Astoria wasn't giving him as much attention as he was used to.

After about an hour or so, Madam Pomfrey was growing quiet irritated of the situation and shooed most the group away and magicked away the mess we had all made. Soon only Mattheo, Pansy and I were left. The three of us chatted away merrily about the upcoming challenge until Mattheo let slip about the mission we went on, which I hadn't told Pansy about.

Pansy's smile faded, and she looked at me angrily, 'You went on a mission and didn't think of telling me?'

'I- uhm.'

'I'm so sorry, I thought you would tell Pansy.' Mattheo said apologetically.

Pansy took no notice, 'So what, Mattheo is your best friend now? A boy you met three weeks ago?' she said angrily. 'I knew you would replace me one day, but I never expected it to be some random boy you met on the train three weeks prior. You used to tell me everything,' she had stood up now glaring down at the both of us. 'Now...now it is like I don't even know you...' she ran off he face streaked with tears. I sank down lower into my seat.

'Y/N, I-'

'I don't think I should be here. I'm going to go now. I'll see you later.' I said dangerously close to tears.
