"Why would you even think that I would inherit the company?" Jennie lifted an eyebrow. She could feel the wheels of her brains turning like crazy. Instantly, assumptions and possible scenarios clouded her mind.
Yu Tingye instantly pursed his lips. He looked at Jennie then into Lisa before frowning. He deliberately said that to gauge Jennie and Lisa's reaction and it seems that they do not understand what he was talking about. Does this mean that the old man is not planning to make Jennie or Lisa his successor?
"Well... he is a very tricky old man." Yu Tingye said, his eyes were still on Jennie. He wanted to see if he could spot something from her face. Unfortunately, Jennie was only staring blankly at him for a few seconds before shifting her gaze back into her tablet.
At this point, Jennie already realized what the old man is trying to do. He wanted to make her the common enemy of his three sons and one daughter. Now, Jennie didn't know why the old man would do something like this. All she knew is that no matter how much she declined to what the old man told her, it will still happen.
Jennie assumed that the old man told his sons and daughter that he would leave the company to someone capable. And that might be the reason why Yu Tingye is here trying to confirm if that someone is Jennie or her husband.
Jennie never considered the fact that the old man might leave a blank will simply because that would be crazy. Why would he leave his company in limbo after his death? Wouldn't that cause more chaos and possible destruction to his beloved company? The stocks would surely plummet faster than she could even blink.
Now... who would want a company like that? Jennie knew that it would be very hard to recover from a fall and the company might even end up filing for bankruptcy. With these dire consequences, the old man would never do something crazy like that, right?
Unfortunately for Jennie, she underestimated the old man's fury. His wife is dying, and he will soon follow her. Even in death, he vowed to be with her. All he wanted was for them to die peacefully of old age. But his children... his children made the only woman that he loves suffer because of what? Wealth!
The wealth that they didn't even earn! The wealth that Old Man Yu and his wife worked so hard to build. Was it really wrong to train his sons to compete with each other? The world is not kind. The old man was only showing them the harsh reality of living in the business world.
True. He wanted to raise wolves and tigers. And true, he should have expected to be bitten by them. But all he wanted was to raise men that people would fear and respect. Was he wrong to value hard work more than blood? Was he wrong to only appreciate the ones who worked the hardest and had the most accomplishments?
Was he supposed to treat his children as babies and give them every little thing that they wanted just because... they were his kids?
No! The old man worked so hard for his company. He and his wife spent almost all of their time working their asses off to survive in the business world. For Old Man Yu, it is only fair that he trained his children to be as aggressive as possible. To be as competitive and smart as possible. It is only fair that the person who will inherit his company has the same passion and capability as his!
But what happened? They poisoned his wife so he will stop focusing on his company. They made her suffer. While only one of them did it. Everyone knew... but they said nothing. It was a crime... by omission.
And all of them... will suffer soon.
The old man was wise. Growing up cleaning the shoes of the businessmen and selling newspapers made him aware of the reality. It made him more observant and skilled. He never started off as someone rich and famous. No.
