CHAPTER 2

Talia's brother, Luca, beeped his horn as I hopped down the stairs from my house. The front window rolled down and Talia shouted "Hurry up we're going to be late", I picked up my pace and opened the back door and sat down.

The drive to school was peaceful, except for Luca's music which he insisted he played. It wasn't too bad, but I would prefer silence. Luca parked in his spot in the car park and we all got out and headed for the gates. As soon as we walked in Luca went his own way to find his friends. Me and Talia made our way to our lockers, they were right next to each other. Chatter and laughter filled the hallways, I reached in my locker and grabbed the books I needed for the day and stuffed them in my backpack.

Suddenly the chatter died down and everyone was staring at the front door. In walked the 2 hottest guys in our school, Kai Hernandez and Ezra Harris, every girl was basically in love with one of them. I don't blame them, they are ridiculously hot, the way Kai's hair bounces when he walks, the odd strand that would fall on his face. His eyes were dangerous, they may look very plain but once you look at them you get lost in them for ages. Don't even get me started on his jawline, that thing is so sharp it could cut paper. The way he has rings on most of his fingers just makes everything 10x better, his tattoos which peek through in random places. I could go on for ages about why Kai is one the hottest guys in school but I don't have the time. Beside him was Ezra, his best friend. Ezra is your typical skater boy who parties and gets with random girls. I won't lie he is extremely attractive as well, but Kai is more my type. I don't know why I talk like this about him, he and I will never happen. He is way too popular.

I can just imagine what it would feel like to run my hands through Kai's hair, and what it would be like the kiss them plump li-

"Lilith" Talia breaks my train of thoughts. "What?" I reply sternly, "You've been staring at the door for the past 5 minutes" I looked down at my feet in embarrassment, trying to hide my face. "What? no I haven't" I said clearing my throat. "Uh yeah you have but whatever let's go"

Shutting my locker quickly, I start walking with Talia to our first class which is business. The professor says we can sit anywhere, so obviously me and Talia sit next to each other near the back. If I didn't have Talia in most my classes I think I would fall asleep.

Our first two classes are over quite quick. We head to the cafeteria to get some lunch; we have a free period next so we just chill and catch up with some work we are behind on.

Normally the cafeteria food is disgusting, but lately they've improved loads. I think it's because they got so many complaints that the food is gross. I got a chicken Caesar salad, bag of chips and a bottle of water, that is what I get every day unless I see something else, I want. Talia got a chicken and bacon salad, fruit cup and a bottle of water, our diets are quite similar.

"Do you know the answers to these questions?" I asked Talia "Uh mine are probably wrong like always, but I got A, C, A, D, B, C" we were doing this stupid quiz our business professor set. "Thanks, I'm just going to put them down and hope for the best" I replied while circling the answers she just read out. "We've got English after our free period don't we?" Talia questioned "Yeah" I replied. English was one of my favourite classes, our professor was so chill and she was so nice to us. "Do you think they're going to set any summer homework?" "I really hope not, I just want to chill this summer" Talia replied quickly. "And if they do hopefully it's easy" I added on.

The bell rang indicating that lunch had finished. Me and Talia didn't move from our spot as we both had a free period. A massive group of people passed me and Talia as they made their way to their classes.

Within the group of people was Kai. He had a blonde girl wrapped round his arm, his facial expression did not look pleased, it's like he didn't want her there. We made eye contact for a few seconds, and I swear my heart done a flip inside my chest. The affect he has on me is crazy, the smallest thing like eye contact can drive me crazy. I crave his attention; I want to build up the courage to talk to him but I just can't. Knowing my luck, I would stutter and make a complete fool of myself* in front of him, that's the last thing I want happening. When he looked at me, it felt like everything was moving in slow motion, like it was just us and no one else around. I sound completely crazy, I know, but if you just experienced what I did you would feel the same.

"Lilith" I ignored her.

"Lilith" she raised her voice a bit.

"Huh?" I finally replied when Kai was out of my view. "Did you hear anything I said?" she asked. "Yes" I lied "Okay what did I say then?" I should know better than to lie to my best friend, she can see straight through my lies. "Ugh okay fine I zoned out sorry" "Yeah I know you did. You were staring at Kai, weren't you?" I could feel my face turn red, "No.." I lied again. Idiot. "Yes, you were, stop lying to me I'm not stupid, you were looking at him" she counteracted "Okay, fine, yes, I was staring at Kai, happy?" Talia didn't reply she just smiled and nodded. This bitch.

For the remainder of our free period, we just continued to work on our class work so we weren't behind on anything and so we had less work to do during the summer. We sat in a comfortable silence, occasionally making small talk about random things, it was nice.

The bell rang again which told us it was time to head to English. Packing up our stuff, people started coming out from all directions, we hoped if we were quick enough, we'd avoid the swarm of people, but we were too slow.

* just wanted to say that I don't mean to offend anyone when I said that stuttering would make Lilith look like a fool. I mean no harm. Just because you have a stutter does not mean you are any different to anyone around you, we are all the same  no matter if we stutter or not. So I am sorry if that statement has offended anyone <3
