The Project| on hold

CHAPTER 3

Talia and I made it to English with about 2 minutes to spare, and we were still the first ones here somehow. "Welcome girls, feel free to sit where you like" Mrs Adams said with a big smile on her face. Mrs Adams was a 5'6, brunette sweetheart, she is the nicest teacher ever, everyone loves her class. She helped me a lot during the start of my first year when I didn't really know what to do. A lot of the boys say they would 'smash' her, which I think is a bit weird since she is basically double our age, but whatever floats your boat. Her husband is an incredibly lucky man.

Me and Talia make our way to back, as always, the teachers don't mind when we sit at the back because we actually do work, rather than just chatting for the whole lesson. A couple minutes later everyone else starts coming in, seats quickly start filling up with students who are chatting amongst themselves.

"Alright class, as you know we are coming close to the end of this year" some students start cheering since we only have 3 days left. "Okay, okay settle down" everyone quietens down. "So, I know I promised you guys there won't be any summer homework, but that has changed unfortunately" people start groaning and questioning why it has changed. "I promise this is quite simple. Over the summer you are to complete a project, in pairs" me and Talia look at each other, nodding and smiling like we can read each other's mind. "But. You are not picking your own pairs; I have already chosen the pa-"

Mrs Adams gets cut off by the door opening. It's Kai and Ezra. "Nice of you to join us gentlemen, please go take a seat near the back you are very late" Both of them don't say anything just nod and go walk to their seats, as Kai is walking, he looks over at me, and of course I'm already staring. Embarrassing.

As I was putting my head down breaking eye contact with Kai, I swear I saw him smirking, I'm just dreaming like always. Kai and Ezra sit down at the end of the row me and Talia are sitting on.

"As I was saying before I was interrupted, I have already chosen your pairs for this year's summer project" Me and Talia look at each other in disappointment, knowing we won't be working together, we never get to work with each other, even though we make a really good pair.

Mrs Adams scrolls through her computer looking  for the list. "Ah here it is, okay everyone listen up" She started reading the pairs out.

"Max and Rose"

"Sam and Claudia"

My hands start sweating as there is only 6 people left, me, Talia, Sophie, Alex, Ezra, and Kai.

"Sophie and Alex"

Please, please let it be Talia

"Talia and Ezra"

My heart drops.

"And that leaves Lilith and Kai"

No, no this can't happen. Kai is known for not trying in school. I can't risk my grades dropping cause Kai won't do any of the work, but also, I'm not going to do the whole project by myself, this isn't fair.

I raise my hand "Yes Lilith?" "Can I please switch with someone?" "I can't do that Lilith, the pairs I've chosen are final and no one is switching." I sink back into my seat trying to figure out how we are going to do this project.

Looking around the room I see that everyone is moving next to their pair. I don't bother getting up and moving, I'm waiting for Kai to come and move next to me. Mrs Adams tells everyone to hurry up and move, obviously Kai isn't moving so I had to get up  and move to him.

This guy is going to be the death of me I swear.

Taking my time walking over to the spot next to Kai, I can feel him staring at me. Normally, this would make me feel some weird type of way, but right now I'm too annoyed that I got paired with someone who does not care about their grades. Dropping my bag down on the floor next to Kai's, I sit down in the chair and run my hands through my hair and I don't even acknowledge him, I just focus on what the teacher is saying. "Alright, now that everyone is in their pairs, I'll tell you what the project is about. This year's summer project is about an unseen book" Mrs Adams carries on but I zone out.

"Lilith"

"Miss Walker!" Mrs Adams shouted "Hm?" "Did you hear what the project is about?" Shit I zoned out for too long I don't remember anything she said. "No sorry" I look at her, I can feel my face turning red. "Very well, as I was saying to those who were paying attention, for this project you and your partner will need to read this book and make a presentation about it. You must include everything, from the plot of the book to your own opinion on it. You have the whole of summer, which is about 3 months, to complete this. If there are any issues, please feel free to email me and I will be more than happy to help"

As Mrs Adams finished the bell rang. Thank God.

"Please come a grab the book before you leave"

I grab my backpack and go up to the front of the class and grab a book and shove it in my backpack. I just want to go home now.

As I was leaving Talia asked me if I was okay, I told her we should facetime later and talk about today. She smiled at me and left the building. Just as I was leaving, someone grab my hoodie sleeve. "Hey what the fuck is your probl-". Fuck this I want to go home. It was Kai.

"I just wanted to ask you for your number sorry" he asked me quietly. "Huh, you" I point at him "Want my" I point at me" number?"  "Yeah so we can talk about the project"

Why am I like this. I take everything the wrong way.

"Oh yeah, obviously here you go" I say taking his phone and adding my number and saved it under 'Lilith'. "There you go" I said awkwardly smiling at him. "Thanks" he said as he walked off with everyone else.

I ran out the building and started walking home. My face felt so hot and red after the awkward encounter with Kai.

God I'm so stupid.
