The next few months the pair had spent time together nonstop. They trained, read books and got to know more about each other. With as much time as they spent together Stephen still hardly knew anything about Y/N's past. He didn't want to pry but it annoyed him that she practically knew everything about him and he knew nothing. Today they were sitting back in the garden reading while the sun set in the distance.
"Stephen?" Y/N's broke the serene silence.
"Mhm." He hummed in response.
"Can I show you something?"
He looked up from his book.
"What?"
She stood and grabbed his hand pulling him up.
"Follow me!" She walked farther into the garden past the bonsai trees at the end of the walk way.
She stopped and opened a portal. She stepped in and motioned for him to follow, as he walked in he looked around and saw cobwebs and broken pieces of wall, they seemed to be in an abandoned building.
"Are you going to kill me?" Stephen asked afraid for his life.
She laughed at his worry and shook her head.
"No."
"I realize I haven't told you about my past. So I wanted to tell you now, but I thought showing you could help too." She walked to the broken window that over looked other buildings.
"This used to be my home." She looked at Stephen, then back outside.
"I lived here with my mom and little brother. My brother and I were super close, we hardly ever fought." She swallowed the lump forming in her throat. Stephen sensed her sadness and reached out putting his hand on her shoulder but she shrugged it off and walked back in the room. She sat on the chair in the middle of the room. Stephen sitting next to her in the other.
"My mother was a single mom. Working two jobs, stressed out of her mind."
Taking a deep breath Y/N continued.
"She would sometimes take it out on us...well me. As the older sibling I had to protect my brother."
"One day I had left school and I took the bus home instead of walking because I was too tired. It was a Thursday, she was always more stressed on Thursday's. I accidentally fell asleep and missed my stop, when I woke up and realized what happened I pulled the wire to stop and I jumped out and ran home."
He looked at her with pity in his eyes, he wanted to comfort her but he didn't want her to brush him off again. He could tell that she was hurting.
"When I got home I heard crying... I thought it was my brother but as I turned the corner to go into the living room the sight was much worse."
She let out a shaky breath and allowed a few tears to escape, falling down her cheek into her lap.
"My mother was the one crying. She was leaning over my brother. In her fit of rage she beat him so bad, that he...died."
She started sobbing. He instinctively grabbed her and held her to his chest. She didn't pull back, but instead accepted the warm comforting touch.
"If I had only walked that day. Or stayed awake. I could've..." Her sobs cutting her short. She wrapped her arms around Stephen tighter not wanting to let go. He stroked her hair whispering into her ear.
"Shh it's okay Y/N. It wasn't your fault!" A tear welling up in his eyes, he blinked it away.

She pulled back softly and looked up at him. The sight before him made his heart shatter, she was so broken and hurt, he wanted to take it all away.
Calming herself she went on to speak.
"I left home not long after. As I got older I went to therapy but none of them worked. One of my therapists referred me to Kamar-Taj, said that this place would be able heal me. People think I came here because I needed to heal physically when in reality it was much deeper than that."
He reached to her face, gently placing his hand on her cheek wiping the rest of the tears that had settled.
"The Ancient One knew of my past, she saw me coming. She became my mentor and helped me throughout the years. She helped me heal more than I ever thought I could."
He didn't speak, he didn't know what to say. He knew she was hiding something but nothing this terrible ever crossed his mind. He started to feel guilty for how he treated people in his past. How he made everything about him. How he was the always the 'victim'. He never knew, until right now that his past problems pales in comparison to hers.
"Now you know. That's my past."
"I'm so sorry Y/N. You didn't deserve any of that."
Her lips formed a small smile.
"We both had things taken from us. We didn't deserve it, but it happened. If it were not for those things being taken, we wouldn't have met each other."
His gray eyes focused on her glossy ones. He caressed her cheek and they stood in silence. They broke apart after some time and made their way back to the temples. As they entered they saw that chaos had erupted while they were gone.

Sorcerers were running and grabbing weapons. Y/N and Stephen ran to the main training grounds and asked what was happening.
"It's Kaecillius! He's taken down the London sanctum, he's after the other two!" The man said running into a portal connected to Hong Kong.
"Y/N! Strange!" Mordo yelled catching the attention of the two. He ran up to them, handing Y/N a staff.
"You two need to come with me. We're going to New York." They followed him to the doors of the sanctums and walked through the opening. Mordo explained to them what happened as they waited for Kaecillius's inevitable appearance.
