The dress really could have been worse

The dress really could have been worse. It was modest, not too short, and honestly pretty comfortable once I tried it on. In the bag was also an option of pants rather than the dress, which came with a dress shirt, but I'd settled on the dress after trying it on and noticing how flattering it actually made me look - something I didn't expect. Once the outfit was settled, Harlow told me I'd need to get introduced to the other girls and brought to the maid quarters, where we all have rooms.

The thought made me so nervous. All of this happened at once and I'm struggling to learn how to process it all. The kidnapping, the bidding, now me here, in the mafia? How do I come to terms with this? I've been practically forced into this job by this woman and I don't think anything I do or say will change a single thing. She seems tough, tougher than anyone I've ever met before; and that scared me in a way.

I decided to lay off the questions at the moment and tried to process everything Harlow told me. Nonetheless, questions continued to pop into my head, but I noticed she wasn't up for answering any more questions so I didn't want to ask. Even though all I wanted was answers.

She's completely careless. I'm confused, and I have every right to be. Yet, she seems like I can just take everything in with the snap of her fingers or something and I'll be over it. If that's her kind of mindset, someone seriously needs to check her out.

Harlow led me out of the room we were in and made me follow her down to the kitchens. I took the opportunity to look around the mansion as we walked. When we left the room, I noticed that there was an elevator at the very end of the large hallway. The mansion was very detailed and quite modern, with colours of white, grey, silver, and gold slashed around the walls and decorations within the entire place

When we finally got to the kitchens, which we passed before when I first entered the mansion on the ground floor, the doors opened and I was shocked to find a kitchen full of women, all over the place. Everyone was working, cooking, baking, swarming the entire kitchen. Chatter filled the room, smiles appeared on faces. Are they happy about this? Happy to be here?

How could these girls be happy about a life like this? A life of confusion and fear and not knowing what's going to come next.

Harlow steps in front of me as I stand in the doorway and calls for Minnie. She comes rushing over and her face gleams when she notices me. I force a small smile. "Miss Elodie! I was hoping to see you again today!" She says, nearing us.

Harlow clears her throat. "I want you to show Elodie to the maid's quarters. Her things will already be in the spare spot in room fourteen. She starts tomorrow, you are to have her up earlier to show her around and fill her in on what she has to do." Harlow orders her. She immediately nods and pulls me towards her. They both look like they have some sort of connection. Minnie seems to like Harlow.

I don't get how that's even possible.

"Sí Sra. DeLaine." Replies Minnie in Spanish, at least I assume so.
(Translation: Yes Ms DeLaine.)
