Chapter 141: You...Are You in a Relationship?

"Frankly speaking, I do not have any sort of relationship with Chairman Lee. Chairman Lee is only taking care and looking out for me as a special favor that someone has asked for," Irene explained immediately. "Tiffany, I believe that this is not what you are really interested to find out. You have singled me out and targeted me right from the start. The first thing that you had done as soon as you arrived in Ace Media was to request to manage me personally. Moreover, I have caught you trying to hide your true emotions several times already. Are you somehow related to the Bae family in the past? Is that why you are here?"

"You would have to ask your dear brother that question, then," Tiffany replied coldly. "Even though the Bae family went bankrupt five years ago, you should not have dragged your brother down with you. Do you know how hurt and depressed my best friend was?"

"My brother?" Irene repeated after Tiffany, as though she suddenly realized something important. "So, the reason you hate me is because of my brother?"

"Five years ago, when your brother, Chanyeol, was still studying abroad, he was in a relationship with my best friend. However, after the Bae family faced bankruptcy proceedings, Chanyeol abandoned his girlfriend and returned to Korea without any hesitation at all. Throughout the past five years, he had never once contacted my best friend, nor have we heard any news about him at all. My best friend was so depressed that she even tried committing suicide a couple of times. Fortunately, I managed to stop her. This is all your brother's fault!"

"I...I have never spoken about such personal and emotional things with my brother. He had never mentioned anything about having a girlfriend. However, my brother is not that kind of person. He does not like to owe anyone anything," Irene replied as she eyed Tiffany suspiciously. "When the Bae family went bankrupt five years ago, my grandfather fell ill immediately because he was unable to accept the situation. I had no choice but to enter the entertainment industry at such a young age to make ends meet and earn enough money to support my grandfather and myself. I had never thought of dragging my brother into this mess. I only realized that he had returned to Korea after quite some time. For the past five years, my brother and I could only depend on one another as we had no one else. Things have only started to turn around for both of us in the past two months."

When Irene had found out that Chanyeol had already returned to Korea, he was already a big name in the entertainment industry.

"You...you did not stop your brother from going abroad? You did not force him to stay in Korea for your sake?" Tiffany asked contemptuously.

For the past five years, Tiffany and Seohyun had always believed that the reason why Chanyeol had never gone back to look for his girlfriend was because Irene had refused to let him go.

They believed that Irene wanted Chanyeol to stay by her side to help her deal with the matters relating to the Bae family's bankruptcy because she did not want to suffer alone.

"Why would I want to drag him down with me?" Irene asked as she stared at Tiffany in disbelief. "I do not know how much you know about Chanyeol, but you have totally misunderstood whatever is going on between my brother and I. My father had given him everything that he had, and my father had looked after my brother ever since he was young. I believe this to be the reason my brother has always remembered his kindness and thus, his reason for coming back to Korea to protect me. I do not really pry into my brother's personal affairs and do not even know that he had a girlfriend when he was studying abroad."

"Therefore, Tiffany, if this is the reason why you hate me, it would be really unfair to me."

Tiffany remained silent after listening to what Irene had to say.

"As for whatever happened between my brother and his girlfriend, you can choose to believe in anything your friend has told you, but I will also choose to have faith in my own brother. In order to repay my father's kindness, my brother was willing to give up on his own education and return to Korea just to protect and look after me. He is definitely not the ruthless person that you make him out to be. I will definitely ask him for an explanation on this matter when I get the chance to, and I hope that you will listen to his explanation objectively when that time comes. Five years ago, when the Bae family went bankrupt, my father's whereabouts and status were completely unknown. If you had been the only man of the family, what would you have done?" Irene asked Tiffany.
