May

Before I registered what happened, I was breathing quickly, my heart racing, as my fingers clicked on Lena's speed dial. It rang a few times, and I flung open the door to my house.

"Hello?" Lena's voice filled my ears, and I sigh with relief. I throw my bags onto my pastel lavender bedspread, just as Lena starts to worry.

"What's wrong?"

"I don't kn-know. I just met a guy and he, I don't know. I just felt him and I knew him, but I've never met him b-be-before. Like we had a connection, but I just don't know," I gasp into the phone, trying to slow down my breathing.

"Holy shit! Babe, you found your mate!" Lena screams into the phone. I wince, pulling the phone away from my ear.

"I don't beli-" I start to say, until Lena cuts me off.

"Don't say it May, you know he's your mate," Lena points out. She's right. I don't want to admit it, though.

"Wait. My blind date. Cancel it!" I say, panicking.

"I can't. I never got his name or number..." Lena trails off.

"Ugh. Fine. I'll just not even go," I say, deciding.

"No! He knows my name, and my scent, he could come and hunt me down!" Lena whines.

"Okay, then I'll just go and cut things off with him, and you'll be safe," I say, then a sharp knock on the door to my home sounds. I feel my pulse quickening, and feel butterflies in my stomach.

"I-uh, I gotta go," I mumble into the phone.

"Wait! Tell me more about your mate! I want to kn-" I hang up quickly. I am overpowered by a strong scent of... something amazing. I don't even know how to describe the smell. I straighten my blouse and fix my hair in the mirror, and take a long, deep breath, opening the door. I slam into a hard, solid wall.

"We ought to stop meeting like this," a vibration travels down my spine as a deep chuckle fills my ears. I pull back, his hands on my shoulders, steadying me. I look into his beautiful blue eyes, his blonde hair perfect. He stands a good six inches over me, his smile God-like. I look down nervously, then speak out.

"Hi," was all I can manage, and it comes out breathy and raspy. I wish to say something else, but I don't trust my voice.

"Hey," he replies, and I can I feel the smile tugging at the corners of my lips. We stood for a while, as I tried to speak, but found no words. I gestured for Jared to come into me home, and he stepped inside.

"Honey, did you get that?" My mother asked, descending down the stairs.

"Yeah," I reply, my voice cracking.

"Sweetie, who is that?" My mother starts to come into view, and Jared wraps an arm around my waist, pulling me closer. My air stops, letting out a choked breath. My mom's eyes pop out of her head, seeing Jared so close to me.

"Who are you? Are you taking her away? Please, she can't leave, she's my only dau-" my mom stops, then gasps and covers her mouth. "May get away from him! He's rogue, h-he doesn't have a mark of a pack!" I looked at his forearm, and sure enough, he was unmarked. How could I be so foolish? I squirm away from his grasp, and his eyes flashed hurt.

"I'm sorry for this misunderstanding, you see-" Jared starts.

"No, I will not see! May has no family but me and Max because of you filthy rogues!" My mom says, as Jared growls and his eyes turn grey.

"Mother! That was rude!" I snap. Jared takes a step closer, and whispers.

"She is my mate. I just joined this pack, and the ceremony of the marking is tonight. I am not a threat," he says, the grey still in his eyes.

"How long were you rogue?" My mom questions.

"Six months. I was disrespected by my Alpha and he was not a leader," he states.

"I'm sorry I misjudged you," my mother apologizes stiffly. Jared's eyes returned blue.

"I'm sorry. My wolf was in control the whole time I was talking to you," Jared nervously chuckles. He gives me a warm smile and it makes my cheeks turn red.

"Well, I'll leave you two alone then," and my mom leaves.

"May, you understand why I'm here, right?" Jared asks. I nod, my eyes trained on the detail of my carpet.

"Hey," Jared puts his finder under my chin so I stare into his blue orbs. "You're mine," he smiles. I felt him closing the space between us, as he dipped his head down, almost meeting my lips... until my phone rang. We jump apart, and I blush from embarrassment.

"Couldn't of asked for better timing," Jared mutters sarcastically. I mumble a sorry and answer the phone.

"Hey Alex," I sigh into the phone.

"Wow May, way to greet me," Jared growls, obviously knowing I'm talking to a boy. "I was going to talk to you about the date tomorr-" all the sudden, Jared walks over and grabs my phone, hanging up.

"Date? You have a boyfriend?" He stands, still holding my phone.

"No, I-"

"I heard his name! Who's Alex?" He yells, and I cringe.

"No, he's-"

"I can't believe this!"

"Jared-"

"I cannot be-" he stars.

"Shut up! You asked me a question, and I'm trying to answer, so please just shut up!" I yell. He looks shocked at my sudden outburst, but obeyed.

"Alex is my best friend. He's human," Jared's eyes widen.

"It's okay, he knows about werewolves," I explain, and Jared's eyes get even wider.

"That's illegal! You could get kicked out and killed!"

"No, my pack allows it," I reply. He arches an eyebrow, asking me why.

"My father was Beta, and they were going to get killed by rogues, so we shifted to save them," I shrug.

"Was? He's not anymore?" He asks. I hesitate, taking in a deep breath.

"He's dead," I whisper, and look down. I start to play will my hands, until Jared gives a hug. We pull apart. but Jared's hands rest on my forearms.

"Let's finish where we left off," he says with a cheeky grin. Instead of kissing hesitantly, he grabs the back of my neck and smash our lips together, not wasting any time. I part my lips as he sucks on my lower lip biting it softly.

My phone rings again, and this time, we don't stop. We keep kissing, but my phone rings again, and I sigh into his mouth.

"I have to get that," I tell him, smiling.

"Better do it quick," he replies, his hands caressing my arms. I pick up, and am blasted by Alex.

"May! I thought you died!"

"No, I'm alive," I giggle.

"So the date, you have to go, or else he'll hunt us down," he says, as Jared lets out a low growl.

"I've gotta go, bye," I hang up, not bothering to know what Alex said afterwards.

"Let me explain, before you say anything."
