Lucas
I carry May out of the car and into the pack house being delicate with her sleeping body. The car ride back to pack grounds was extremely quiet. Max was constantly checking for May's pulse, and Jared looked uncomfortable with me sitting next to May.
"Doctor! We need a doctor!" Max yells as he goes into the pack house.
"Damn, Max, could you be any louder?"
"Someone called for me?" The pack doctor, Ethan, appears immediately by my side.
"That girl over there got her throat cut by silver. We put anti-silver in the cut already. Do you mind looking at her?" I request.
"Of course, Alpha," the doctor walks to May and examines her cut. After a few minutes, he tells us what he found.
"You did the right thing. If you hadn't used that anti-silver, she would have been dead."
"Thank you," Jared speaks up, shaking the doctor's hand. The doctor leaves, leaving only me and Jared together with James and Dylan.
"We're going to get some food," Dylan says, obviously sensing the tension. They leave us, and we're alone.
"I'm gonna check up on May," I state. He nods his head. I leave to hear May and Max.
"I'm sorry, May. I had to do it for your safety. I understand you didn't want to stay here, and I know you can kick some serious ass, but you have to understand. If you were in my position, you'd understand," Max speaks softly.
"I forgive you, Max. It's hard to stay mad at you, anyways," May laughs.
"Thank you May. I really am sorry," Max says again. I decide to come into the room, so I knock.
"Come in," my mates beautiful voice replies. I open the door and close it behind me.
"Hey. How are you feeling?" I ask, making my way to the couch she's sitting at. I sit down, making myself comfortable.
"Okay, I guess," she shrugs. Max sits there with his arms crossed, glaring at me. I clear my throat uncomfortably. May suddenly gasps. I go on high alert, and Max does the same.
"Oh my God! The bookstore! My manager is going to kill me!" I relax.
"It's okay, give me her phone number and I'll call her. She's a werewolf, right?" I reassure her, and she nods her head.
"Thank you," she whispers. I give her a small smile.
"Hey Maxy? Do you mind giving me and Lucas some time alone?" Max's jaw hardens, clearly protective of his younger sister. He gives us a curt nod and stares at me, almost telling me not to try anything. He stands up and goes to the door, leaving it open. May rolls her eyes. I chuckle, earning a giggle from May. She smiles, and our eyes lock. After looking in my eyes, she breaks her gaze to my lips. I do the same, tracing the outline with my eyes. She surprises me by leaning forward and pressing her lips softly on mine. I reach down and put my hands on the sides of her face, deepening the kiss. It is an innocent kiss, no tongue, no passion, no roughness. It was a kind kiss, one that I've never had before.
May pulls back, cheeks flushed.
"What was that?" I grin.
"I'm sorry. I don't hate you, I could never hate you. I only said that because of Alex. I was probably overreacting about moving in with you. I just hate it when people underestimate me. I'm sorry," May whispers the last part, looking down.
"Hey," I lift her chin to meet my eyes. She stares into them, her green eyes soft and caring. "I'm sorry. I can't believe I let my jealousy take control of me. Alex is human, and you didn't mean that you loved him that way. I'm an alpha, I need to learn to control myself."
