May

The man looks up in surprise, and I take the opportunity to kick him in his family jewels. He grunts, and I run towards the figure in the door.

"I am so sorry," I whisper, hugging him.

"You don't need to be," Jared kisses my forehead.

"No, I left without telling you. I didn't let you explain," I counter, looking down.

"May," Jared lifts my chin, "I'm here now, and that's what matters." I smile at him, and lean into his embrace.

"What the hell?" The man growls at Jared, then louder at the sight of me hugging Jared. "Who are you?"

"I could ask you the same question," Jared challenges, and pushes me behind him.

"You don't need to be scared babe. Hurting you is the last thing I would do," he says, his eyes almost softening. Almost.

"Babe? Yeah right! Back off man, she's mine!" Jared scoffs.

"She is MINE!" The man yells back. Until recognition slaps me in the face.

"Alpha Lucas. From the Ares pack," I whisper. Jared looks about ready to kill him, as Lucas smirks.

"Come here, Little Mate. I will keep you safe," Lucas smiles. Mate?

"Woah, back up. Mate?" I question.

"She is mine, I don't care if you're an Alpha!" Jared takes a risky step forward, but he is very in control of his wolf.

"Jared. You really shouldn't. He is an Alpha, you can't take him," I say sadly, adverting my eyes to the floor.

Jared

She had walked right past me, I knew she was leaving, but to where? I felt our hands touch, and I somehow knew she was going to Melinna Avenue. I ran through the crowd, and felt two hands press against my chest.

"Hey Jared. Wanna come over?" The girl purred. I remember her from last night.

"Get off of me, I have to go," I snarled.

"Chasing after your stupid little mate? She is such bit-"

"What?!" I shouted. "Dare to finish?" I felt my eyes darken to a gray, as she shook her head quickly. I pushed past her to leave.

I got there just in time to see May get pulled int a shop. With that, I ran to the shop with May squirming against him, trying to get her shirt up.

"Get off of her!" I shouted. He looked up, and May kicked him, as he curses and crouches. May hurries over to me, hugging me. Back safely in my arms. Back with me.

"I'm so sorry," she said, putting her head on my chest.

"You don't need to be," I tell her, kissing her forehead.

"No, I left without telling you. I didn't let you explain," she looked down to the floor.

"May," I lifted up her chin, "I'm here now, and that's what matters." She smiles, and leans into me. I felt terrible. What kind of mate hurts them, then puts them in danger? Me. I really suck at being a mate.

"What the hell?" The man boomed. "Who are you?"

"I could ask you the same question," I challenged, pushing May behind me.

"You don't need to be scared babe. Hurting you is the last thing I would do," he said. No one calls May, who's mine, 'babe'.

"Babe? Yeah right! Back off man, she's mine!" I scoffed.

"She is MINE!" The man yelled back. I look at May, who has a shocked expression on her face.

"Alpha Lucas. From the Ares pack," she whispered. I want to kill him.

"Come here, Little Mate. I will keep you safe," Lucas smiled. Mate?

"Woah, back up. Mate?" May questioned.

"She is mine, I don't care if you're an Alpha!" I took a step forward.

"Jared. You really shouldn't. He is an Alpha, you can't take him," May said sadly.

*now*

I feel anger boiling inside of me, because this so-called Lucas is trying to take May away from me, even though she's mine.

"Oh no you don't! May is MY MATE, NOT YOURS!" I bellow. Lucas chuckles.

"I beg to differ," Lucas points out. "She has two. You've never heard of two? You're both in the Athena pack, you should both know."

What the hell?

"You're a descendant," Lucas smirks. May shakes her head. "You are her descendant from this century."

"No. No no no! I don't want two mates!" She walks away from me and in between me and Lucas.

"I want to go home, so I am going home," she states, her body showing confidence. But I can feel the fear radiating off her.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Pup," Lucas winks. I growl, as May shakes her head.

"No way."

"I will pick you up tomorrow at 10:00pm at your house."

"I don't want to," she mumbles, moving closer to me.

"You will, even if I have to drag you away," I start trembling with anger.

"No," May says.

"I am an Alpha, you will do as I say. You, are coming with me!"

"Like that will ever happen," I growl. I clench my fists, waiting to pounce.

"You can't take me, I'm an Alpha," Lucas grins.

"Like I care," I advance towards him. Smirking, he swings at me. He makes contact with my jaw. I react quickly, hitting the side of his face. He draws back, jerking his elbow into my stomach. I double over, but manage to kick the back of his knees. He falls, as I proceed to kick him again. I grab my ankle and pulls forward, causing me to fall. Damn, he was good. I scramble up at the same time he does, and we're back on our feet. He jolts his right hand forward, leaving his face unprotected. Smirking, I block the punch by grabbing his arm and punching his cheek. May cries out, and yells.

"Stop!" She pulls me back, and I immediately stop. Lucas's wolf is still in control, so he tries to lunge at me. May quickly moves to Lucas, and touches his bare forearm. I bite back a growl. In a flash of a second, a loud slap! echoes in the small market, and May is on the floor, holding her cheek.

"May, what happened? God, are you okay?" I say, next to her, holding her tenderly. She has tears in her eyes, but stands up. She turns to Lucas, who's looking guilty.

"What did I do?" He whispers. "I'm sorry, I wasn't in control." He steps towards her, but May stands her ground.

"You hit me." She calmly states. "You, hit me." Her voice quivers slightly. He drags a hand through his hair, and sighs.

"I'm sorr-" he starts.

"No, save it. You're a sorry excuse for a mate. I'm going home," May walks out, her maroon heels clicking on the floor. I follow her, but then without turning around or stopping to walk, she simply says, "no, walk home yourself. I'll see you at home," and hops into her car, leaving me on the street, dumbfounded.
