"Okay, I mean honestly, was I really that high?"

"Yes. You were talking like a freaking drug addict," I reply, sifting through my closet for a cute outfit for school.

"I don't remember anything that happened that night or what I was saying on drugs, or what I was going to tell you. Sorry. I feel so stupid!" Maya throws her hands up in exasperation. I turn around from the view of my closet to Maya sitting on my bed.

"Don't beat yourself up because of it. Derek is the one at fault. You're fine. I'm not mad at you and neither is anyone else."

"But I feel like this is all my fault. If only I remembered, you could be a little safer," Maya picks up my eyeliner and holds it up to her eyes.

"I'm never going to be safe until Derek is gone. So stop. You can use that eyeliner, you know. Oh, and does this bracelet match my outfit?" Maya glances over at me and nods, opening the eyeliner.

"Okay, I'm going to change really quick and we'll leave for school," I tell her, grabbing my jeans and striped shirt. After pulling my outfit on, I slip on my shoes and grab my car keys off the table. Waving goodbye to Lucas, he catches up to me.

"Nope. I'm taking you to school. Come on, Josh, Chloe, we're leaving!"

"I am not a child, Lucas! Besides, I have Maya with me and the fact I could take out just about anyone should make you feel safe. I'm leaving now." I drag Maya out the door and hop into one of Lucas's expensive cars.

"Wow. He's loaded." I laugh, and start the car.

"I know, took me awhile to get used to it. But I'm in love with his cars," I keep my eyes on the road.

"What about him?" The car jerks forward and I cough, trying to keep it on the road.

"Sorry."

"So do you love him?"

"No." I say too quickly, "I mean, I really really like him, and we have a physical connection and he helps me calm down."

"So you love him," Maya concludes.

"No, I just have a strong attraction to him."

"Do you want to jump his bones every time you see him?"

Kinda. "No."

"Why?" Maya asks. "I would."

"He annoys the shit out of me when he's too protective." I reply, turning into the school parking lot.

"Do you ever fight with Jared?" Maya asks me, and I put the car in park.

"No. Never, and it's great. We can talk and its easy, like nothing matters to him but everything is important to him. Its perfect. You know?" I smile at her, Ed Sheeran filling the silence in the car from the radio.

"That makes no sense, but okay. Just remember this, and this is coming from a good friend who practically almost died to save you: a perfect relationship is never just love and perfection. A perfect relationship is to fight, and forgive each other. Its finding a way to still love each other even when you hate each other."

I ponder on the thought and cut the engine. Maya slings her backpack over her shoulder. Its true, but Jared is the perfect guy. He'd protect me. But with Lucas, our relationship gets stronger all the time. He annoys the crap out of me, then turns super sweet. Even though he's super over protective of me, its kinda sexy. He cares about me and that matters to me. Jared is never like that, he knows I can kick ass. I just wish Lucas knew I can hold my own.

Stepping out of the car, I make my way towards the school, falling in step with Maya. I know its a little weird how we were best friends, she became a bitch, then we broke up, then now we're best friends again. We get along as if we never hated each h other, and I'm cool with that. As I reach for the handle to open the front door, the door opens harshly, hitting my nose.

"Ow, shit!" I curse, my hands going straight to my probably broken nose.

"Oh, Pup, I'm sorry, I didn't see you there. We need to get you home so we can take care of that," Lucas says, rubbing his hands up and down my back. Wait.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I push away from him. He looks shocked, then angry, then worried.

"Well I- I talked to- you know- and yeah." Is his genius reply. Just when I was starting to take Maya's advice into consideration, he becomes a stupid asshole.

"Not good enough," I bite out, stepping closer to him and glaring at him even though our height difference makes me look ten years younger than him.

"I'm just going to go," Maya scampers off.

"I was talking to your principal to see if I could get assigned student assistant. Your student assistant. I would hold your books, open your locker, protect you-your principal thinks its a great idea," he smiles, nodding his head.

"No."

"What do you mean?"

"I can take care of myself. Besides, Jared is here and so is Josh and Chloe. I can kick all three of their asses. Now you leave the school and don't come back to protect me and shit. I get it, your possessive. But seriously, come on! Trying to become my body guard at school isn't exactly what I planned for junior year. I really, really like you but sometimes I want to punch you so hard.

"And Maya told me something super deep this morning so I'm not going to get mad at you because she talked about perfect relationships. We do have a great relationship, you just need to understand I don't need protecting.

"So first things first, get out of my school. Second, don't come back inside. Ever. And thirdly, I'll see you when I get home."
