May
His eyes were so sharp and cunning they could cut you in half with just a glance. Just a touch and he would be so cold he could freeze your thought process. His entire being can make you cower away in fear.
Derek.
"Don't involve the humans, Derek. That isn't the deal," Lucas shouts at him, walking up to me and holding my hand. He chuckles, and rubs his hands together, shaking his head.
"Ah, that's where you're wrong there. You see, I don't care. At all," he smiles evilly. I let out an uneven breath, still debating how to get Lena and Alex out of here, alive.
"You know May, I always knew your thinking-of-a-plan face. Your eyebrows would scrunch together a little bit, you would bite your lip so hard it would bleed, and your eyes would spark with excitement. But you have no plan, do you? You have no idea how you're going to fight me, because you know you'll only lose," Derek smirks.
"Oh, please," I scoff, "if I didn't have a plan, then I'd be practically sacrificing myself for you. But, you deserve nothing, so I would do it to put myself out of my misery." Derek grits his teeth. Lucas softly touches my arm.
"Now. Do it now, Rufus!" Derek shouts. My pack members are alert, looking for the danger. Alex looks ready to kill someone, and Lena looks mortified. I walk towards them.
"If you take even one more step forward, I will end this right now. I'm not kidding," Derek warns. Rufus puts the knife slowly and softly on Lena's neck.
"Don't touch my sister!" Alex bites out, struggling from their grasps. A guard punches Alex.
"Shut it, human," Rufus growls. "When you're ready boss. Would you like it to be short and quick or have fun with this?"
"Short for the angry one, have some fun with little pretty red head over here. She's pretty," Derek replies. Tears stream from the side of my cheek.
"Please, please. Stop doing this, Derek. Just please, stop," I plead. Derek puts his head up, pretending to think.
"Yeah umm, no." Derek laughs and waves at Rufus. I sob uncontrollably, my body shaking.
"I love you Lena!"
"I love you too May, Alex!"
"Ow, oh shit! Get off! Run, run!" Someone yells from our side the grounds. Rufus stops.
Lucas leans over to Dylan and James and says something I can't hear. They leave to opposite sides of the field.
Of course I should have known that smell. But would I really think they'd come and help me, especially me?
"May, I didn't take you for being smart. Having someone attack from behind," Derek chuckles lowly.
"What attack from behind?"
The footsteps get louder and louder.
Punch! Kick! Bam!
Alpha Cole and Max are standing there, smiles on their faces with the Athena Pack behind them.
"No one, and I mean no one, tries to kill the love of my life."
Jared.
He shifts suddenly into his brown wolf, leaving me with my mouth gaping open. The rest of the Athena pack shifts, charging at Derek's pack. I quickly turn around to my pack.
"What have you been training for the past two days? Are you going to let some human and his pack of rogues kill us? Shift and attack!" I shout, pointing at Derek. "But leave Derek for me."
"No! Stop it! Get off of him!" Lena screams.
I look at her, sobbing over Alex's body, bloodied and beaten. I run, feeling some tears fall. No, not Alex. Please, just not him.
"Alex! Can you hear me?" I fall to the ground next to him, shaking him. I listen for a heartbeat, anything. Lena sobs, leaning over his body.
Thump.
I gasp, looking at Lena. The faintest, little sound of Alex's heart.
"Lena, stop crying. He has a heartbeat!" I laugh, crying with joy. "Someone! Get him inside the pack house! He needs medical attention now!"
Lucas and I make eye contact, nodding.
"I love you, May. No matter what," Lucas whispers, knowing I heard him from across the field.
"I love you, too. Always," I smile at him before shifting. It's now or never, May. It's time to stop it all.
*~*~*~*~*
"You're such a bitch. Alpha Derek told us to keep you alive so he can kill you himself, but I might just keep you to myself. We can go somewhere quiet, just us. No one would have to know," a rogue whispers the last part.
"I think you shouldn't listen to what Alpha Derek says and keep me. For yourself," I smile, inviting him to come closer. He looks at me, letting a wolfy grin appear on his face.
"That's what I'm talking about," he grabs my hand, but I take it, twist his arm and flip him over my shoulder. He groans in pain, but ends up having a hold on my ankle. I fall, trying to kick him off. His clammy hands slip, letting my ankle free. Dragging him off the ground, I let my elongated nails threaten him silently as the rest on his neck.
"You think you can kill me, huh?"
"Yes," I say, voice wavering.
"You can't do it. Because you're a little girl. Because you're scared. Because you aren't your brother, and you're pure and innocent. Because you-" I puncture his neck and drag my nails through it, ending his life. His body falls on the forest ground, lifeless. I stare at him, realizing he's right. I am like Derek.
"May. We don't have any time. Come on, let's go," Lucas pulls me into him. "Come on, Pup. We need to leave before Derek gets here."
"Too late."
