chapter forty-one "i know she is, but i miss her a lot"

The four saw gavin's car get out of the garage and they hid, laying down. jj tired to steady himself as he placed a hand over jo's knee and jo felt that, she felt it awkward, like the tension between the two raised in a second.
the four sat up and, after a little complication, began to follow gavin as pope listened to what he was saying through the airpods
"he's talking to ward"
"are you serious?" kie said shocked
"get clo-get closer. i can't hear" pope told her
"he's talking about negotiating something. re-renegotiating"
pope stood in silence for some seconds until he said something that shocked the other three a lot "gavin's got the gun that rafe used to kill peterkin"
"holy shit" jo and kie mumbled in sync
"i think he's trying to use it as extortion, as leverage"
after some seconds gavin pulled over "shit. he's panicking"
"what do i do? do i pull over?"
"go around the block" jj said and so kie did
"we're gonna loose him" jo said
"go, go, go" jj stated
"i'm going. i'm going"
"i can't hear anything. shit. i'm losing the signal. i can't hear him"
the four arrived if front of some signal "what the hell is this?"
"stop. just stop and turn around now" the four were about to panic and when kie was about to go back a truck blocked their way
jj hopped down the car "hey! we were about to back up"
"oh, fuck it" jo said and hopped down the car urging pope to follow her
"wait! what are you guys doing?!" kie yelled
"we gotta know where they're meeting" jo answered
pop and jo ran in the backyard of a house while jj yelled at them as kie and him were following the two who climbed over a fence and ran next to a pool with four people in it
"yo, pope, jo! hey!" one of the girls yelled making the two look at her but pope tripped over a swing and he lost the airpods
"no, no, no, no"
the two looked for the airpods in the grass "here"
jo place an airpod in her ear and pope took the other one as they hid behind a bush right next to gavin's car
"gavin, meet me now" the signal wasn't clear for a couple of seconds "at the construction site near the surf shop. you understand? you bring the gun, i will bring you your money. and then we're done. are we good?"
pope and jo looked at each other in shock
"yes, okay. all right, i'll, um...i'll see you there"
gavin drove away in the exact moment tanta kiara and jj arrived next to pope and jo
"what? what does that face mean?" kie asked
"he...he's meeting ward right now" pope answered
"we gotta go" jo stated and the four ran back to the car

meanwhile at nassau, john b and sarah just managed to escape from paradise island, cameron's vacation house. john b lied to sarah, he promised to not go look for the gold that was probably at paradise island but he did, causing the people that drove them from the middle of nowhere to nassau, to get that and threat them. so sarah and john b got into paradise island and found the gold but they almost got caught by the police and managed to escape thank you god.
"okay. i have never loved you more, sarah cameron" john b said as he hopped down the car that they stole "that was crazy. you straight up donkey-kicked that dude-"
"you lied to me" sarah clenched her jaw as she violently pushed john b
"what are you talking about? we're fine"
"no, we're not fine!" sarah yelled "you lost the only money we had! you almost got us both caught, if not shot! how is that okay?"
"i-i am proactively admitting i screwed up and willing-"
"proactively admitting doesn't do anything. i have lost my father. i have lost my brother. i have lost my little sister. i have lost my fucking best friend" and sarah's voice broke just thinking about whizzie and jo, the probably weren't even able to help each other "i can't lose you"
"look, it won't happen again"
sarah was still mad "i'm calling the shots now. and to start, i'm driving" she walked to the drive sit but stopped and walked to the other side "i can't drive stick"
sarah and john b hopped in the car and drove in the middle of the night in silence for a while. sarah's memory flew to little moments with jo, like the first time they played in her garden, when she told her about john b, the nights they spent looking at the stars at their spot...and now they were without each other and that was a thing that sarah could have never imagine
she felt her eyes get full of water and the urge to scream filled her body
"jb?" she whispered
"yeah?"
"can i scream? i need to scream" she asked
"go on" and with that sarah screamed, a scream that broke john b's heart, it was a scream full of pain, full of a lot of missing stuff, it was like a part of sarah was empty
"better?" john b asked when sarah stopped screaming
"no" she answered, crying "i wanna go home"
"i know, me too" he said "wanna do pillow-talk?" he asked making her chuckle
"you have gossip?"
"jo and jj are together"
"what the actual fuck?! why i didn't know it?" she asked genuinely shocked
"i found out some hours before the plane and then everything went down and she probably didn't have the time to tell you"
sarah's smile disappeared "i don't even remember the last time i talked to her"
john be placed a hand over sarah's thigh "she's probably okay"
