The next morning, we went to inform the client about our mission's completion. He was relieved to hear that the orphanage was gone for good, but disappointed that the children couldn't be saved.
"Their conditions were already beyond saving. No amount of technology and magic can turn their lives around; at most they might live for a couple more months with proper care," Laxus explained.
"I see. It's truly saddening to hear that. Nevertheless, I will continue to pray for those kids' happiness during the time they have left. As promised, one million jewels for your hard work. Thank you so much for your help, Fairy Tail wizards," the man bowed to us. My brother simply nodded, grabbed the bag of money, and left; I politely bowed to the man before following Laxus back home, and as expected, we are walking back.
"We're splitting fifty-fifty, right?" I made sure.
"What? We're splitting seventy five-twenty five since I did most of the work anyways," my brother corrected.
"What? I risked my life to gather information for you and I only get twenty five percent? We're going half!" I argued, earning myself a bonk on the head.
"Don't talk back to your elders," he glared.
"Very bold words coming from you," I sassed, earning another bonk, this one harder than the last, "Anyways, did anything happen at the guild while we were gone?"
"Yeah, those losers got their asses whooped by Phantom," my brother scoffed, "This all happened because of that new blonde chick that just joined."
"L-Lucy?" I questioned and he nodded, "Why?"
"Apparently, little miss princess here is the daughter of the Heartfilia Corporations. Rich girl felt rebellious and ran away from home, so daddy hired Phantom to bring her back," Laxus explained ever so sarcastically.
"Not her fault her dad is a bitch," I mumbled.
"Not my problem. But thanks to that, our guild is now looked down upon by people; they trash talk us and say we're not that big of a deal," my brother growled.
"Who cares what people say; if you know you're the best, it doesn't matter what the people gossip about," I shrugged.
"Must be easy for you to say since it's not like you do anything for the guild that you can take pride in, anyway." His words made me flinch. I looked down at my feet as my body trembled.
"... What do you know...?" I muttered.
"What?"
"I said, what do you know?! It must be great to be able to succeed at every single thing you do! It must be fucking nice to be able to take pride in everything!" I exploded, "What do you know?!"
"What, is it my fault that you can't do anything right? Not my fault that you're so weak!" he argued.
"Do you think I wanted to be born like this?! It must be nice to be you, the oh-so strong and mighty Laxus!" I snapped.
"Yeah, it is pretty nice being me; jealous?" he smirked, making me roll my eyes and scoff.
"Never mind, I just lost the mood to argue with you. Just don't go around the guild saying that; people will get mad," I sighed, "Either way, our guild won didn't they?"
"They better," Laxus clicked his tongue. I'm glad you take pride in our guild, but can't you be nicer about it? I don't dare say anything though since I know I'm just gonna get nagged anyways.
