"Get off of me!" Dwalin growl as we are lead trough the crowd to the master's house. A guard open a door and a fat man who I think was a master step out. "What is the meaning of this?" the master ask. "We caught 'em stealing weapons, sire." one of the man who lead us say.
"Ah. Enemies of the state, then." The master say. "This is a bunch of mercenaries if ever there was, sire." Alfrid say, I already hopped that I would never meet him again. "Hold your tongue. You do not know to whom you speak. This is no common criminal; this is Thorin, son of Thrain, son of Thror!" Dwalin shout. Thorin step forward and say "We are the dwarves of Erebor.".
"We have come to reclaim our homeland. I remember this town and the great days of old. Fleets of boats lay at harbor, filled with silks and fine gems. This was no forsaken town on a lake! This was the center of all trade in the North." Thorin say and the people nod. "I would see those days return. I would relight the great forges of the dwarves and send wealth and riches flowing once more from the halls of Erebor!" he continues, the people cheer. Now I understand why Thorin would be a good king, and he look really handsome. I need to stop thinking like that, bad me.
"Death! That is what you will bring upon us. Dragon-fire and ruin. If you awaken that beast, it will destroy us all." Bard shout suddenly and the people whisper, I think in his words are sense, but the dwarves have done so much to get here. "You can listen to this naysayer, but I promise you this; If we succeed, all will share in the wealth of the mountain. You will have enough gold to rebuild Esgaroth ten times over! " Thorin shout and the people cheer again. I don't know if I like where this is going.
"Why we should we tell you what your word. We don't know nothing about you. Who will coverage for your character?" Alfrid ask. Everyone is silent, and none of the other dwarves are enough. "Me. I'll vouch for him. I have traveled far whit these dwarves trough great danger, and if Thorin Oakenshield gives his word and he will keep it" Bilbo say, stepping forward, but the people didn't look convinced, but I am still proud of him, he never liked to talk in front of many people.
"And me. I have traveled the same way with him. He keep all the promises he gave me" I shout, and lie because Thorin have promised me nothing. Even when I am scared what will happen next I still do everything that Thorin and the others have their home back. The people cheer and the master also look pleased. Thorin look first at Bilbo grateful and then at me with something I couldn't place.
"All of you! Listen to me! You must listen! Have you forgotten what happened to Dale?!" Bard shout and the people look down. "Have you forgotten those who died in the firestorm?!" he ask again and the people shout "No". "And for what purpose? The blind ambition of a mountain-king so riven by greed, he could not see beyond his own desire!" Bard shout and stares at Thorin angrily. Even what he say is true, Thorin isn't his grandfather, he can change things.
"Now, now, we must not, any of us, be too quick to lay blame. Let us not forget that it was Girion, Lord of Dale, your ancestor, who failed to kill the beast!" The master say and point Bard. Thorin look at Bard angrily and in shock. "It's true, sire. We all know the story: arrow after arrow he shot, each one missing its mark." Alfrid say. The people are not happy and Bard walk over to Thorin, saying "You have no right, no right to enter that mountain!". "I have the only right." Thorin answer and he is right, he is the king under the mountain.
Thorin turn to the master and say "I speak to the Master of the men of the Lake. Will you see the prophecy fulfilled? Will you share in the great wealth of our people?". The people look excited. "What say you?" Thorin ask. "I say unto you...welcome! Welcome and thrice welcome, King under the Mountain!"The master say pointing at Thorin. Thorin climb on the stairs and turn to the people.
The same guards who found us steeling weapons, lead us now into a big room where are many long tables. "Come sit with me" the master say leading us towards the biggest table. He sit at top of the table, Thorin on his right side and Fili left. "Y/N, come sit here" Thorin say pointing a chair between him and Dwalin.
I sit there without arguing, i don't like the master and his men and I feel safe with Dwalin and Thorin. "Is everything like you want?" the master asked Thorin. He just nod and continue eating. On the table is so much food, different fish, flesh, vegetables, wine and ale. I take just a small pies of pork and some carrot, I don't feel really hungry at the moment.
I watch how the dwarves full their face with food, expect Thorin, he is too important. I don't drink wine or ale, I hate the taste of them. It warm my heart to see how Oin, Gloin, Fili, Kili, Ori, Dori, Nori, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Dwalin, Balin and Bilbo have fun and don't worry for a moment. I can't really join them, I'm too worried about Smaug and the other problems we might face.
When Bofur start to sing a happy song I hear the baritone voice, what i have started to love, whisper "Do you feel well? I expected you would be the one who start doing something stupid". "I have a bad feeling about the last part of this journey" I whisper back. "I am sure that everything goes well" Thorin try to convince me. "What if I do something wrong and we all fail" I say the thought that bothered my mind for a while now.
"I can't think about anything what you could do wrong. Except if you can somehow convince Smaug eat everyone of us" Thorin say smiling at the end. I have never heard him joking about something before and first time I see in his smile the same mischievous grin as by Fili and Kili. I think I like this Thorin more than the grumpy one...
I hope you like this charter.
