Christmas day I felt all the butterflies in the world fluttering in my tummy. I am excited to say the least. Even with my sore ankle, I feel elated. My mom is making breakfast which I'm excited to have. I picked out an Alex and Ani bracelet for my mother and cufflinks for my father. I know what they like so they are satisfied. They got me equipment for my pictures, and it may have been the best thing they've gotten me.

We all sit in the family room with the fireplace lit and watch Christmas movies. I felt warmth internally from being with my parents. I'm used to them working all the time, even on their down time. But to finally be with them—wow, now this is why I love the season.

I text Landon throughout the day about when we would meet to hang out. He let me know that I could go over to his house because his mom and dad were going to his aunt's house. I get his gift ready feeling nervous about whether he'll like it or not. I finally make my way around 8 o'clock and when I pull into his driveway, I see his car in the driveway. The front door is open, and I see him standing in the door. I feel—giddy? Seeing him wait for me. It's new for me, but I like feeling excited seeing someone I care about, someone that I like.

I grab his gift and head to the door with a limp. He opens it once I get up the steps and quickly takes his gift from me to sit down by the front door inside. He then engulfs me in a hug. "I missed you." He mumbles into my neck.

"I missed you too." I shamelessly admit. He invites me in, helping me sit down.

"It's gotten worse, hasn't it?" I sigh, shrugging my shoulders in response. "Let me see." He lifts my leg up and takes my shoe off to inspect my ankle.

"Dri, your ankle is swollen, you gotta wrap this."

"I will go to urgent care tomorrow and see what they say." I pout.

"Promise?" He points at me playfully and I return the gesture.

"I promise."

"Ready to open your gift?" His jaw clenches and I've caught on that he does that when he's nervous.

"I'm excited." I smile big as he goes to pick my gift up. It's an envelope and when I open it it's two tickets.

"What's this for?" I ask confused.

"Thank you." I hug him tightly as feeling joy over his thoughtful gift. I'd learned everything from YouTube and trial and error.

I wipe my watering eyes before tears fall. "Now what makes you think I want to take a dance class. I haven't danced in years." He gives a bashful look and shrugs. "Looked like you missed it to me when we went to Zax's." I don't say anything as I try to process it.

"Danni Lane is teaching the class."

"Woah—how'd you get an admission to her class?" She is a popular dancer from Kalamazoo and whenever she'd come back in town from being on the road, she'd do a class.

"It took a lot." He sighs dramatically and I giggle at him.

"Wow—thank you Lan." I give him a tight hug and kiss him on the cheek. I wipe my eyes once more before I grab his gift. It was big and heavy, so I left it at the door. I pick it up giving it to him. I kept it in a plain brown box so he couldn't tell what it was and then wrapped the box in gift wrap. He sits it on the tabled and rips the paper off and then opens the box. When he lifts the gift up, he does it with much more ease than I did.

"Oh man—is this to time me when I practice?" It's a large hourglass, made of real glass. I had words printed across the side, it was the quote by Jesse Jackson that I'd seen him post as a caption on his Instagram. I nod at him and smile as I see how excited he is. He goes in and kisses me on the lips, and I return the gesture.

"I love it." He showers my face in multiple kisses and I giggle uncontrollably.

"Look, I have one more thing for you." I pull a folded piece of paper from my pocket and give it to him. When he opens it, he takes a bit to read it.
"Did you sign me up for a debate seminar at U of M?" His eyes light up and I nod my head.

"U of M Ann Arbor by the way." I wink at him, and I see his jaw clench. It's surreal knowing I can make him nervous. "Don't get so nervous, this is your future." I smile at him to ease his nerves.

"Maybe that's what makes me so nervous—this could be a step toward a scholarship offer." I pause in deep thought because I hadn't thought of how life changing it can be for him.

"Well, you better get ready because the seminar is coming in February."

"Oh, did you say let's go on a road trip?" I start to say something but I'm unsure on what to say. "Sounds fun to me." He kisses me on the lips, and I peck his lips once again.

"I'll think about it."

"Come on, just take a college tour, we don't need our parents to come." He begs.

"Okay." I quickly give in, rolling my eyes at how quick he changes my mind.

"Road trip to University of Michigan it is." I smile at him before I peck his lips.
