"Hey girl you're still coming Saturday night?" Madison dances toward me. She has her cheer uniform on for the Friday night game and her curly hair was in a ponytail tied with a glittery bow themed with our school's colors.
"Of course, we're gonna have a fun girl's night."
"Yup, hanging out with Landon."
"Not!" I exclaim. "No." I clarify waving my arms.
"Too late, shouldn't have included me in your lie for your parents now we have to actually go so you won't have to make up a story."
"Whatever." I mumble. "You're lucky she wants proof and I don't want to find out what she'll do if I lie and say I went."
"See you Saturday." She sings swaying her arms and sliding her feet backward.
"What's up Dria! So, you're coming Saturday?" I screech at his unexpected outburst.
"I wish you wouldn't sneak up on me so much Landon." He puts his arm around me and smiles.
"Sorry."
"And can you stop calling me Dria too?" I whine. He kisses his teeth at my question.
"Come on is the nickname Dria really that bad?" I open my mouth to say it was, but I quickly close it. I really hadn't thought about if it were or not; I was more so focused on the unfamiliarity of it.
"You know what Landon, call me Dria if you want." I move his arm from around me.
"Alright bet." He rubs his hands together. "So, you coming or what?"
"Maybe." I drag, trying to ease my way away from him.
"Aye wait up." he puts his hand in his pockets. "You have my number, why don't you ever text me?"
"Why would I?"
"I don't know, just to say hi or ask me what I'm doing... The part come to the store yet?"
"Yes, I just haven't been able to get it."
"I can take you to get the part when you're ready."
"No thank you, I think I'll just ask my dad to take me tomorrow."
"You should let me take you to work and pick you up from school some days when your parents can't take you."
"No." I quickly decline.
"You afraid for me to know where you live and work?" He winks at me and I twist my lips trying to look everywhere but in his eyes.
"Yes." I say honestly.
"Am I that bad Dria?"
"I don't know you well." Which is true, but I still think that he comes across as obnoxious and insensitive.
