My first basketball game in years and I was damn terrified about performing. I cannot take this. I rock back and forth on the bleachers in my uniform. The first Friday in February and I had only two weeks to learn this dance.
Everyone else with their luscious and long hair is pulled back into a half up half down style and I refused to even try with my short bob. Everything else could be the same except for that. Our uniform was a pair of baggy joggers with cropped hoodie to match. I go over everything in my head as I try to memorize the routine.
"Pssst." I turn my head trying to figure out what was going on.
"Down here Alex." I look down seeing Madison with her cheer uniform on. Our color uniforms matched except she had a skirt on.
"What's wrong?" I peer down at her through the bars.
"Are you ready for halftime?" She's shaking with excitement.
"I'm so nervous." I whisper to her. She kisses her teeth smiling at me.
"Look in the middle of the bleachers." She nods her head over and I turn around to see what she was talking about. I see Justin and next to him is Landon. He has a black t shirt and in big bold red letters it reads My Girlfriend Is on The Dance Team on the back. He happens to turn and glance my way. He gives me a small wave and I shyly wave back.
Warm. My heart felt warm seeing him being supportive of me and my new endeavor. I appreciated the gesture, and the nervousness went away.
"Jussy has the same shirt, but it says cheerleader. Aren't our boyfriends cute?" She gushes. I give a small smile before I go into deep thought about her comment.
This is exactly what she wanted, this is why she started her plan with Justin and—the shit was actually working out.
"Adorable." I snort at her and put my back against the wall.
She made it all happen.
Damn, she's good.
When halftime came my heart starts to pound. Hearing the buzzer made me snap out of it and I stiffen up in fear. We have to open halftime for the cheer team, so we all go down in a single file straight to the middle of the floor. There are a few people who cat call and I smirk hearing them joke around.
When we get in formation, I investigate the crowd trying to figure out where I should look. I glance at the door, and I see the two of my parents standing there watching me. I try and hide the shocked look on my face seeing them before I get into position.
Bass pounds through the speakers and we start the first ripple in the dance. Too $hort's Blow The Whistle emerges in a mixed sound and from there I melt into the music and give it my all.
What's my favorite word?
Our music bleeps out the word, but the student section still screams it.
BITCH!
