Nervous isn't big enough to describe how I feel getting ready to go to the Christmas Eve party. I started off my morning panicking about what to wear and I did not shy away from telling Landon how I felt either. There was no way I was going to hang at his house—I had other things to worry about first. I'd already felt weird about not being invited by Mrs. Alicia, now Landon is running late because he insisted on coming to get me after he was done helping set up the party, which he said he forgot he had to do.

I try to stop biting at my freshly painted nails as I feel my heart pounding. I put on a pair of black slacks and a grey blouse. Since it is a special occasion, I did a full face of makeup trying to make myself look more dressed up, the colors I picked isn't going with what I put on. I love my makeup, but I'm not satisfied with the look altogether.

Heels or flats? I hold a pair of black flats and a pair of black heels unsure on how to top my outfit off. Stop overthinking. Snapping myself out of it I pick the flats and grab my things making sure I put my lipstick in my small wristlet to carry with my license.

I text Landon checking to see if he's close and he responds letting me know he's outside. My heartbeat fastens as I do a once over on what I was wearing. I hear the front door open, and my mother's high-pitched voice lets me know she let Landon in. When I come into the living room the two of them are talking and when they notice me, they immediately stop. When he and I lock eyes, he gives me a warm smile. I take in his attire, and he has a black shirt and pants with a gold jacket to match. He wore a subtle gold chain instead of a tie.

"Okay guys, I'm going to go upstairs and finish getting dressed for your father's corporate shindig..." She looks between the two of us before she goes up the stairs.

"You look—great. Am I underdressed?" I start to panic inside but I try not to show it.

"Very." He holds up a black garment bag and I squint my eyes at him in suspicion. "Take that off, we dress formal for Christmas eve." My cheeks get warm in embarrassment, and I cover my face on instinct.

"It's okay you didn't know, and you found out about the party last minute." His voice softens and I move my hands.

"How do you know my size?" I look up at him through my lashes.

"I asked Jasmine since she went homecoming shopping with you." His jaw clenches and I feel a smile creep on my face as I realize that he's as nervous as I am. "Your fave boutique." He winks.

"When did you get this? I thought you were setting up. How much was it? I'll pay you back." I start to ramble, and he chuckles at me.

"We have a party planner do that for us. I got it a couple of hours before they closed." He shrugs.

"Thank you for thinking of me Lan." I walk back to my room and hang the bag on the back of my door.

I unzip it seeing a red dress and my mouth drops. I pull the dress out and it is a backless v cut red dress with a bow in the back. The front of the dress is plain, but the back brings in all the character. I quickly slip my clothes off and put the dress on in front of my full-length mirror. I smooth the front of the dress out and bite at my bottom lip taking in the beautiful dress. It is like a skater skirt and stops above my knees. The dress is loose around the waist, but I try to push it to the back of my mind.
